SB Live! card. speakers popping. HELP!!

Okay so, I got this SB live! card very recently. its brand spankin new! so I pop it in and things seem okay. My speakers arent that great so I got some labtec speakers that are pretty nice. But when I play a game and turn on hardware acceleration and \or EAX...I get nasty popping and weird sound effects. It sounds REALLY BAD! Now I know that the LIVE card is no Audigy 2...but seriously its a pretty well rated card...

Is it because I do not have a subwoofer? does that make a difference?

Can somebody help me?

lack of subwoofer wouldn't (shouldn't) affect this

try reducing the master volume on the creative mixer to 50% or so

but then its quieter...and its not like the speakers themselves are too loud...just when EAX or hardware acceleration is on, THEN I have problems.
