Audigy 2 ZS platinum (((Help Needed!!!!
I bought the platinum so I could use optical with my onkyo. The problem is when I test it with the calibration wizird it only detects right and left speakers. I have a 6.1 set up it tells me to check speakers. I did the onkyo remote test and all speakers are working great. What setting did I miss.

If I remeber correctly the recevier only recieves a "stereo" signal unless you play dvd's or use a program w/5.1 sound track. If you set the digital input to "auto" on the recever it adjust accordingly.

I can understand that but the speaker tester should be able to read my speakers
also I put in pain killer and that gave me surround with my audigy 1 but only two speakers on 2

the only way to get more than 2 channels of sound through the s/pdif (optical or coaxial) is to encode the sound with ac-3 (dolby digital) then you will get 5.1 (not 6.1) sound
i only know of the soundstorm chipset being able to do this (for a consumer card at least) professional audio cards use optical and transfer 8 channels… but that is in the ADAT format so thats really no use atm

it depends on how many s/pdif inputs the receive has… if it has 3, try using all three s/pdif outs of the card (you may have to build your own cable/mod for the card though)

What if i just wannt to use the plugs in the back of the card? What would be the best way of doing it plug wise? For the best quality sound

well if you use decent quality analog cables im sure the quality should be fine… it also depends on the quality of your receiver - the sound card in question has pretty decent analog quality - but it may not beat the quality of your speaker set
i guess the only way to find out is to test it

Because if not whats the point upgrtading to the zs if I have to have analog audio only. Will the difference from audigy one analog to audigy 2 ZS analog be even noticable.

the difference should be quite noticeable due to higher quality codecs and op-amps in use
edit: how many digital inputs does the receiver have?

I've always wondered about this. Could he use a mini stereo plug to rca cable, to connect the DI out to the coaxial on the back of his receiver?
