not exactly true Samir, in my case i had to bridge these pins to get the inputs working, but only for my Audigy 2 ZS board, my Audigy ES was fine

As I said, I've read some more posts and I understand that SPDIF in connectors on AUD_EXT use TTL signal...so I have to build a coax 75 ohm - TTL converter.

Also...suppose I have the pins 25-35 bridged. Suppose I have coax-TTL conerter and through that my standalone DVD Player is connected tu AUD_EXT pins 5-6.

How can I make the soundboard to take this signal, to decode and to bring it to analog outs ? It does that by itself ? Or how ?
(this question is available for both cases : KX driver and Creatve driver as Samir said).

And please people...use some more words to be more explicit 'cause I'm a little lost here.

Thanx

ok, all you need - is the RCA connector, and the transformer unit. kX will do any necessary decoding/routing

That is very strange?!? Are you 100% sure, that you need 25->35 'hack' under kX?!? Maybe it's for ZS card series only, because my plain old Audigy2 works smooth as milk without any modifications; all AD_EXT inputs / outputs are enabled under kX by default...

Well, after you have buildt COAX to TTL converter, & after you have connected efverything right, you only need to enable "S/PDIF AC-3 Decode mode" in kX manager / master page... that's all... I don't know how to enable AC-3 in Creative driver, i'm not using it for years.
But, prior to this, you should TEST S/PDIF input & converter with plain stereo source, just to be 100% sure everything works in hardware, at least...

good luck!

ah...may mistake (maybe) Samir....I've wrong understood that you are using Creative drivers
So you say that KX drivers make the routing from AUD_EXT SPDIF in to analog outputs....well...it does this trough an AC3 decoder ? and if so which is this AC3 decoder in KX DSP graph ? which component ? Because I wasn't able to find it ( true, I'm not so used to KX driver and DSP graph )...but thinking logic I guess that component, that AC3 decoder piece in DSP graph shoukd have 2 inputs and 6 outputs . correct ?

Well, in kX you can route from ANY input to ANY output, do that simply by connecting 'wires' & modules in DSP window...
BUT, AC-3 is complete different world; it's decoded in software on both kX & Creative drivers... So, if you want to use AC-3 decoding in kX you'll need valid AC-3 source connected into S/PDIF input & AC-3 decoding option activated... After this, kX driver decodes AC-3 stream, and sends 3 different audio streams (through DirectSound 'interface') back to DSP... It's up to you where do you want to route these decoded streams; you can rote these to 5.1 or 6.1 speakers, to headphones, even to different output souch as S/PDIF, or to all of them togeather...

That's why i love kX.

Damn ! I was sure that Audigy 2 have somehow a hardware Dolby Digital decoder... But it seems to do that by drivers . Hmmm that's make me to wonder somehow...if Dolby Digital is decoded soft by Creative (or KX) driver it makes sense anymore to use (for example) WinDVD's option "SPDIF out" in audio menu ? Should'n be better to use WInDVD's dolby decoder and set audio to "Analog 5.1 speakers" ?... I know, I know...this is other story.

Well, during this week I will build that coax-TTL converter. And you are saying that for your Audigy 2 wasn't necessary to bridge pins 25-35 ?

No, when using kX drivers, i don't have to bridge 25->35 on my Audigy2...

well then...first I'll try not to bridge those pins I guess
Samir, do you have an ideea...for Audigy ( not Audigy 2, just Audigy ) is the same diagram for coax-TTL converter ? In that case it is necessary to have some pins bridged or not ?

I ask you that because as I said I'm not so good at electronics and I have a coleague ( 60 years old or so ) who will build the adapters ... one for me and one for him. He is good at electronics...but in computer staff is kind of crap

Thanks

the same diagram will work for ANY coax spdif device to ANY TTL spdif device, the only difference would be where the pins are connected to

Audigy1/Live! has completely different connector than Audigy2! You'll only need to bridge if using Creative drivers... Different type of bridging is required for Audigy1 / Live! See that image in this thread if you need to bridge Audigy1...

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...threadid=48786 these informations are good ?

And one more question Samir. You said that I need to bridge only if I'm using Creative drivers....Then what will be the point to do that if you are saying that Creative drivers are unable to route SPDFI in through AC3 decoder to analog outputs ?...Or they are able ?

Yes, that's good info... Since i'm not using Creative drivers for more than two years i can't tell you how AC-3 decoding works in these, but there are many users who use Creative drivers and they can confirm...

Also, you should check YouPAX driver sets threads on this forum, you may find more details overthere...

As i saw here, i made connection to Pin 1,5 & 7 to get an optical and coaxial output. First i did connect 25 and 35 to fake audigy drive. But with this connection. When i reinstall creative drivers, i dont get any sound from speakers. Then i disconnected 25 and 35 then reinstall drivers. It works fine. Plus, optical and coaxial out works.

Why do i need to connect 25 and 35 then? in powerdvd spdif out mode. My DTT3500 Decoder works with both optical and coaxial.

You need to connect pins 25 to 35 to make Creative driver belive there is AudigyDrive connected, so that all inputs/outputs are enabled in sofware...

Thumbs Up!

Hi, like Samir ask before i post here my experience.

I'm from Brazil and have a Audigy2 ZS and the Live! Drive. I make my own cable, following the diagrams post in this forum, and works fine.

Thanks to all, especially Samir and dj_stick.

Thank you guys !!!

thanks for the info icarotrevisan!

You made it without any hardware modding Live!Drive itself? Using Creatove or kX drivers?

You're wellcome,

I just change a jumper, near AUD EXT pins (Live! Drive), named OUT 2 / OUT 0 to OUT 0.
I using original drivers and make autoupdate at creative website.(no need update to work)
The cable is the original one, from Sound Blaster Live! Platinum with comented modifications.

I want change to KX driver, i have to uninstall original drivers?

Thanks.

Yes, you'll have to uninstall, completly! Using driver cleaner after uninstalling from Control Panel is advised... If you are into music, kX drivers are THE Best! If you are into gaming, kX are not very suitable for games, you can play games; 3D sound will work, but no EAX...

good luck again!

hi guys, I've been reading this thread frantically. Almost certain I'd find my answer but not quite!

I'm attempting to connect the front mike in and sound out sockets on the panel of my new Antec P160 case to my ancient Sounblater Audigy card SB1394. But I'm struggling.

The card does not have the nice 10 pin white connector which looks like would work.

The card has this well known pinout

Pin-Outs
Pin Name Description
1 VCC +5V power supply
2 VCC +5V power supply
3 GND Ground
4 AC97CLK 24.5 MHz clock output
5 GND Ground
6 GP_SPDIFIN#2 SPDIF input signal
7 GND Ground
8 GND Ground
9 SPDIFO#3 SPDIF out Signal
10 GPO1 General Purpose Output #1
11 GPO2 General Purpose Output #2
12 GND Ground
13 GPO0 General Purpose Output #0
14 GND Ground
15 GP_ SPDIFIN1 SPDIF Input signal
16 GND Ground
17 GPDIFO#0 SPDIF Out signal
18 GND Ground
19 SPDIFO#1 SPDIF Out signal
20 GND Ground
21 GND Ground
22 SPDIFO SPDIF Out signal
23 GPI0 Digital Input (GP Input 0; Reserved)
24 GPI1 Digital Input (GP Input 1; Reserved)
25 OUTMIDI MIDI Output
26 GND Ground
27 INMIDI MIDI Input
28 GND Ground
29 KEY no pin
30 KEY no pin
31 ADCSDO2 I2S audio data input
32 GND Ground
33 ADCSDO1 I2S audio data input.
34 GND Ground
35 ADCSDO0 I2S audio data input
36 GND Ground
37 I2SCLK I2S serial bit clock
38 GND Ground
39 I2SFS Frame sync.
40 GND Ground

This is the Case pin-out

Connecting the Audio Ports
The front panel speaker and microphone connection features an Intel-standard
10-pin connector, with 7 additional individual wires and connectors. If your
motherboard supports Intel's standard onboard audio connector, you can plug
the 10-pin connector directly into the board (it doesn't . Otherwise, you'll need to attach
the 7 individual connectors to the motherboard. Here's how:
Locate the internal audio connectors on your motherboard or sound card.
Consult your motherboard or sound card manual for the pin-out positions.
1. Connect the MIC connector to the microphone power pin.
2. Connect the MIC-BIAS connector to the microphone input pin.
3. Connect the AUD GND connector to the ground pin.
4. Connect the FPOUT-R connector to the Front Right Speaker Out Pin.
5. Connect the FPOUT-L connector to the Front Left Speaker Out Pin.
6. Connect the RET-R connector to the Rear Right Speaker Out Pin.
7. Connect the RET-L connector to the Rear Left Speaker Out Pin.
Note: If your motherboard doesn't support rear speaker output, you don't
need to connect the RET-R or RET-L connectors.

I just want simple input output - surely this is possible?

Thanks all

So, I just connected my optical/coax bracket to pins 1, 5, and 7 with 25 bridged to 35. I then connected my XMpcr toslink to the input and I didn't get any sound... until 15 minutes later!!!
I was browsing the internet trying to find some solutions and then all of the sudden the music started blaring. It freaked me out. For some reason, it takes 5-15 minutes for the SPDIF/in to start working. Could I just have a faulty SPDIF bracket?

ddogg777:

Probbably too long cable! you were lucky to get anything... Try using shorter cable / wires...

cjd:

Audigy1's AUD_EXT connector (one who's pinouts you specified) has nothing to do with any front panel audio connections... All signals on AUD_EXT are DIGITAL, do not try to connect anything from it to your front panel connectors!

ddogg, what exactly did you connected to SPDIF in ? What is that "XMpcr" ?
What tipe of signal did you put to SPDIF in ? Stereo signal ? And one more question : wich drivers are you using ?

Thanx

XMpcr is a satellite radio, right ? That's why I love Google
So please answer to the other questions

Those are two post I have in other tread in KX divers -> General Discussions, but I taught maybe will be interesting for someone and I'm posting in this tread too :
__________________________________________________ _
"IT WOOOOOOORKS !!!!!!!!!

I build a new coax-TTL converter, only for input...and it works ! I have sound in my speakers...I have a blue square "AC3 SPDIF decode"...

Only a little problem I have...there some little interuptions from time to time...like a frction of a second... could be this a driver setup problem or converter prblem ?

Another thing...that blue square is blinking...is this correct ?"
__________________________________________________ __

I've tried few minutes ago with Creative drivers too. Unfortunatelly it doesn't work. I guess just birdged pins 25-35 is not enough for Creative drivers.

No I'll go back to KX

Ah, and one more thing. With KX drivers it wasn't necessary to bridge pins 25-35

__________________________________________________ __
Oh man ! It works with Creative drivers too !!!!!!!11...After I wrote the above post I've prepared to uninstall Creative drivers and aplications...and first time I've uninstalled Creative Media Source suite...and after computer restart BOOOM ! I had the DVD playing sweet and fine in my speakers ! cOOOLL ! Amaizing ! God I'm sooooo happy !

So. I've used a little differend coax TTL converter than andrewkillpartick's one. There are two different resistors in that diagram. This converter can be found here : http://sound.westhost.com/project85.htm

To connect the converter to the soundboard I've used a standard 3-wire CD-ROM audio cable ( 1 wire for 5Volts, 1 for TTL signal and 1 for ground). This wire is pretty long ( about 40 centimeters or so ) but I don't have no problem in receiving the signal.

And last but not list : thanks a lot especially to samir and dj_stick, guys who make me to open my eyes a little wider
Thank you guys and keep it so.

ok so i have the live drive that came with my sound blaster live! platnum 5.1. Is this the front panel you all are talking about? if thats the case, this means i should be able to connect it to my new audigy 2 ZS right? so my real question is how do i do this? if those are the pin assignment for my new card on the second post, which pins do i match up to on the Live! Drive 1? and do i really have to mod the hardware? and after i get this worked out my remote should work? if not don't worry about it. i will just use an spdif output panel that came with my gigabyte motherboard, assuming that even though it says out i can connect it to the in and use it for input? sorry if this is a pain but i just couldn't find a very clear answer at all for connecting the live drive to the audigy 2 zs, and which wires to swap on the "ide" type cable i got with my live drive. i hope this was clear enough for you all to understand.

Ct4660

Hi

I have read this thread and feel confident that I can connect the CT4660 I/O panel to my audigy 2 ZS but would like some help clarfiying which SPDIF input pin should be routed to the audigy card from the CT4660

On the card I can see that Pin 6 SPDIF IN2 is going someplace, maybe it should be this, or should it be SPDIF IN1 on pin 15?

Any help is appreciated, TIA

It's a matter of luck! We simply didn't have chance to try all DRIVES on all CARDS... Best thing is to try, we'll help if we can...
