Advice: Audigy 2ZS and speaker set for watching DVD in living room

Hi:

I need some advice regarding the following:

I have in my living room my TV and PC, and i usually watch DVD's from my computer, moving the VIDEO signal from videocard to TV and the sound from my soundcard (Nvidia integrated) to a 5.1 120Watts RMS PCTronix speaker set.

Well i plan to buy an Audigy ZS and upgrade my speaker system to Inpire T7700 as i have not many chances in my country and the room is small. The questions are:

1.- How does Audigy converts the 5.1 audio from DVD to speaker output? Plain simple upmix?

2.- Could i take the SPDIF signal from my DVD topset and process through the Audigy to transform the audio to 7.1? would i obtain the same result as in 1?

3.- Why the connection from the Audigy 2ZS to Inspire T7700 has 3 cables and it then transforms to 4 cables? i mean how does it obtain the 4th signal?

Well thanks in advance

Flavio.

System Specs

1. the audigy decodes AC-3 and will palyback in 5.1 just fine
2. this may be possible - i'm not sure how you can do it in the official creative drivers but some DSP work in the kX drivers can achieve this (if you consider using kX post a thread in the kX forum regarding this)
3. Check the cables - it may be that one of the stereo plugs was split into 2 mono (for subwoofer and center)
the 3 plug end should have all plugs with a 3 pole (Tip Ring Sleeve) end, with the other end with 2 3 pole TRS plugs and 2 2 pole (Tip Sleeve) plugs

An Audigy 2Zs is an 8.1 or 7.1 soundcard so I dont think it has to convert anything. Also if you're not fixed on the creative speakers, other sets like the Logitech Z680s can decode that for you too. If you're getting the audigy though you dont really need that.
