SB Audigy DE and Gigaworks S750 Questions?

Hi,

I just bought a creative gigaworks s750 (upgrading from an inspire 5300) and my sound card is an Audigy DE. People are saying that s750 is very very loud (i.e. they can shake the house, annoy the neighbours, etc.). S750 also has 700W RMS output power while my previous inspire has about 100W rms (I think). When I first install the S750 I assume that it will be very loud, like 7X louder than my previous inspire. However I found that the new gigaworks is not even 1.5x louder than inspire. Is this normal?
Could it be that my audigy card cannote deliver enough amplified signal to the speakers?

System Specs

the audigy does not deliver amplified sound
it delivers line level sound that is amplified by the speakers

IC.....
So in your opinion, should the gigaworks speakers be 7x louder than the inspire speakers?
Well the output power is 7x larger on the gigaworks.

System Specs

no, the dB scale is logarythmic
to get a 3dB increase from 100W you need to double the power
so 200w is 3dB higher than 100w
400w is 6db higher than 100w, and 800w is 9db louder
so your speakers should be about 7-8dB louder than the 100W speakers you used to have

Sorry for my lack of knowledge in this area.
How much louder is 7-8db is subjective? Is it about 1.5 times louder?

Thanks for the info man.
You seem to know everything in this area and that make a good asset to DriverHeaven community.

it won't be that much different

the human ear cannot tell the difference between sounds that are 3dB or less apart
