how is doom 3's sound quality to you?
what do you guys think? i really thing the game is better with a high end 5.1 sound system or with good head phones. the sound sytem MUST be alligned around or its useless. really the sound was a little grainy at parts, but you hear little things which is kinda cool. i think splinter cell had some awesome sound, this game doesnt support EAX4 Advanced HD all the crap?

with my modest system, i thought it was pretty good. although doom 3 kept detecting it as a 6.1 system when it was 5.1. this was very frustrating because i couldnt hear things directly behind me. the rear speakers only worked when something was to the back left or back right. then again, it might be my soundcard...

do you think if EAX was supported it would be better all around?
i mean carmack went all out on the graphics, but not the sound? just a simple enable surround sound option |

The sound was excellent imo, some of the best in any game I've played
But I hear they will be adding EAX HD soon with a patch. I think there is a deal with creative to work that out or at least that is what I've read.

Good, but not the best. If I had to give it a one word description, it would be OVERRATED based on the pre-released hype.
Regarding EAX support, there may NOT be a EAX patch for the D3. The deal was to include this option for the D3 engine itself for 3rd party licensees, not the original game. However, for marketing (and experimentation) purposes, either Id or Creative may release a patch later down the road. |

The engine seems fine (don't really care for EAX extras), but some sounds are not very well done. Especially many weapon sounds felt bland or uneven.
