I was leaning toward the Klipsch 5.1 for my Voodoo, but I think Im going to go with these 680s. Cheaper, as much power, THX/DTS etc. Looks like more for less. Been checking the e-commerce sites every day but no one has them in stock yet. I love Klipsch, and some of Logitech stuff is downright mediocre, but their high-end speaker setups have been notoriously well respected for a while. Maybe they need to concentrate on it and give up the mouse/keyboard department. Wait, I also own a Logitech mouse/keyboard. Forget that!

You seem to forget that there's THX and THX...........
The Logitech THX speakers aren't as good as real THX Home Cinema (Hi-Fi) speakers from professional brands..... They are relatively linear at high volumes and are capable of giving a good quality on the whole spectrum (ca. 20 Hz - 20 kHz)........ Real THX speakers need to answer to strictlier demands........ But for a computer it is the max and it's rather cheap... Anyone wanna buy my Yamaha 2.1 speakers

I saw around $290 or so from Computers4Sure or one of those outfits (before shipping). Every place Ive checked so far as "0" in stock so they may still be waiting on their first batch.

That was pretty much my opinion. I dont see how the Klipsch are worth $100+ more at this point. Great speakers no doubt but I think Logitech may have undercut them too much for even Klipsch to counter. I was leaning toward the Klipsch but will now wait until the z680s are available.

What Klipsch can do and what Klipsch will do are two entirely different variables. Klipsch knows they are perceived as upscale. Just like Sony will never reduce prices to compete with HP on a consistent basis, the only thing that will get Klipsch to drop $100+ off thier 5.1s as soon as the Logitechs come out is a change in corporate philosophy. In other words, Fuggedaboudit. They sell less but their margins are higher. Similar to Porsche. Porsche is the most profitable car company in the world, yet sells so few. Decent marketing, a strong loyal upscale clientele and a decent product does wonders. But you wont see Porsche competing against the PT Cruiser any time soon either.

Besides something I have forgot about; for around $180.00 I could have speakers as good as or better than the new Logitechs.
This versatile audio surround sound system digital decoder/preamplifier is precisely crafted to bring you the most advanced surround modes including DTS, Dolby Digital & Dolby Pro Logic. This system will reproduce six discrete channels of encoded sound tracks with true fidelity and sonic excellence. The ProMedia DD-5.1 automatically detects the type of signal present at each input and decodes it based on the original encoded software. * The ProMedia DD-5.1 allows you to connect virtually any audio input sources such as: o Game Consoles with Digital Connectivity (With Toslink optical cable or RCA S/P-DIF) XBox, PlayStation 2 o Computer Soundcards with Digital Connectivity (S/P DIF; RCA or Toslink jack) o DVD Players, LD Player, CD Player with Digital Connectivity (S/P DIF; RCA or Toslink jack) o Analog 2-channel (stereo RCA) sources such as TV, VCR, CD Player o 2-channel Miniplug Sources will need an adapter to RCA plugs. (PC soundcards, laptops, or analog 2-channel Game Consoles: Nintendo, Sony PlayStation) * This unit includes Bass Management, but the optimum mode is to set all channels to Large Mode (RED LED) so the ProMedia system can accurately channel the bass information to the subwoofer. * 2-channel, 4-channel, and 5.1-channel modes for your specific ProMedia system. This is especially helpful to allow digital connectivity to all of our products. It is up to the user to decide the facility for a ProMedia 2.1 application, but the 4.1 and 5.1 benefit significantly with this unit. * This unit includes Five Channel Equalization for fine tuning the frequency curve of your system * Convenient Wireless Remote Control |

Another good option for just 130 bucks:
http://www.midiland.com/proddetail.a...r=60&category= I like midiland's speakers and decoders. Quote:

I'm interested in knowing which one of these will work with an Audigy.
I like the Midiland decoder better; you can tell what it's doing easier. Price is more reasonable too. BTW, I'm thinking about buying some bookshelf speakers to replace my Klipsch orginals. I haven't decided on what brand yet but I will let you guys know how it turns out. |

...if you are going to bother with separate receivers for digital outsourcing you may as well buy a REAL receiver, like a 200+ buck Pioneer one that supports Dolby EX and DTS:ES. Buying a receiver for klipsch speakers is like buying a 15 inch sub for your bathroom radio.
You could probably set yourself up with an amazing sounding 5.1 rig with receiver for close to $750...which since you'd be paying 500+ bucks for the klipsch 5.1s and the receiver...would be acceptable. Plus, with a real receiver, you can hook up more than 2 DIGITAL sources to it (like hook up an audigy platinum's optical out to it, then hook up your DVD player to it, and switch between the two with the press of a button). I've been considering doing the same thing myself, and just giving my logitechs to my brother...man, could you imagine doom three on a true 5.1 system...with 24bit/192khz DACs and 600watt output...hhooooowee! |
