The different types of Audigy cards

I've noticed tons of different names for the Audigy cards. There is Audigy ls, es, or just plain Audigy. Then there are the Audigy 2's and the different names for that. My question is this, what exactly are the differences? I picked up a new Audigy es from a friend cheap and want to know what the difference is between that and the normal Audigy. And what are the differences between the Audigy 1 and Audigy 2 and the zs?

I thank anyone in advance that can simplify Creatives cluster fug.

System Specs

Audigy ES is the OEM Audigy card - lacks the firewire port of the standard audigy and replaces it with a gameport
Audigy LS - is not a "real" audigy card as it does not have the 10k2 chip (and has a higher CPU requirement)
Audigy 2 ZS is the same as the Audigy 2, but has 7.1 sound instead of 6.1
Platinum models have a drive-bay i/o attachement, and the platinum pro(a2zs)/ex(a2) is the external version of the drive bay

EDIT: the audigy 2 cards also have 24/96 playback/recording cababilities

p.s. a2 has 106dB SNR of rear playback, and 108dB SNR of front playback. a2zs has full 108dB SNR surround.
Audigy has 96KHz/24Bit playback cababilities(after modded)

Are you talking about the audigy 1 series? it is not true 96khz - it is resampled to the 10k2 DSP samplerate of 48 khz (hardware limitation)
the LS series *may* have 24/96, but i don't know much about that model

I think Creative conceals many functions of Audigy1. I'm not sure whether there is hardware limitation, but im pretty sure Audigy1 can resample the same frequence as Audigy2, 192KHz stereo and 96KHz 5.1 surround. we tested to use Windvd 6(creative DVD-AUDIO is unable to play it) to play DVD-AUDIO by installing Creative EMU1212M(it must be modded unless the sound quality is not so good. 3 files of this drivers cann't be modded, but it only does not influence you install 1212M software package). I think you also can install pre-PAX drivers, they theoretically can play as 96KHz/24Bit. This modded 1212M driver, next YouP PAX will be soon released.

Modded into what and how? I am getting an ES and have not owned a creative soundcard since my old Live 4.1.

you just simply install YouP PAX driver to mod.

if you want higher quality to play rock n roll, you'd better install good driver,KX.

thanks for the info dj_stick. At least I know the es I am getting will be a fully functioning Audigy card and not some stripped junk rip off. Who uses Firewire anyway? I already have 2 ports on my mobo that have never been used. I disabled them in my bios.
