What I mean is should I wait for the audigy 2 or go elsewhere as I have heard of many problems with the card itself which makes me very aprehensive

What do you want out of a soundcard???
If gaming, get the Audigy/Audigy2.... The sigmatel dacs they're planning to use introduce a very tinny sound. I'd much rather suggest the Terratec DMX 6Fire or 6Fire-LT for proper ASIO support, true 24/96 playback and recording (not that the Audigy2 can only do ASIO under 16/48) and is full AC97 free.... Also the Terratec comes with ASIO 2.0 drivers while the Audigy uses ASIO 1.0 drivers. With Winamp 2.xx and the ASIO plugin, prepare yourself for truly superior soundquality... And, on top of all that...you get EAX, A3D, DS3D...via the Sensaura Multidrive 5.1 API... |

no, its not worth it. i mean.... the gtxp with everything is as cheap as audigy mp3+
.... the platinum audigy is 160 dollars...... ...... The only reason I still keep my audigy in my pc even with a santacruz in there is because of EAX3 and Soundfonts (midi). If it weren't for those two features, I'd have given it away or something (to poor deKee ).

EAX 3.0 is the future.
24bit/96khz is not. I'm sorry, but with any speaker system for desktops or midrange home theaters, those buzzwords do almost nothing for sound quality. It's a freaking computer! If you want "absolute audio fidelity" buy a 100,000 dollar set of electrostatic 7.1 speakers and THX2 custom made amps and decoders. If you want the lowest CPU usage, the most USEABLE features (EAX3, Soundfonts which rock, and crystal clear 5.1 audio on Klipsch 5.1s or pristine 4 channel surround gaming on logitech z560s), the most you'll probably really need (right now) is an Audigy. The only real thing any other card could introduce is more EAX, or hardware decoding, which, unlike the uninformed will tell you, the Audigy REALLY DOES DO DOLBY DIGITAL IN HARDWARE. And for 100 bucks, come on. I spend more money on three tanks of gas. It's worth it for EAX 3 and the BEST soundfonts of joe schmoes consumer sound card. |

. Even that says that the decoding is strictly in drivers. ![]() (and IMO, EAX3 is really cool)

Freedom is a feature.

Agree with dallastar, EAX 3 is fascinating, I remember when I first tried EAX goldmine on 5.1 system... rollz... Must be that because they took some of A3D techs.
