Is it possible with a custom driver to make the optical audio output into an input? If you could do something like that in your driver, I'd love to help test it
.(the reason I ask is because someone seems to have done something similar in Linux: http://www.mail-archive.com/alsa-devel@lists.sourceforge.net/msg08944.html) |

i was thinking to mod SoundStorm driver for Realtek chips, since SoundStorm powered by ALC650 chip.
please copy & paste this information: SP2 only: Start menu > run > devmgmt.msc > Sound.. > Realtek AC '97 > Properties > Details > Device Instance ID > copy and paste it here the PCI vendor/device value. suppose to be something like: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_006A&SUBSYS_1C00147B&REV_A1\3&13C 0B0C5&0&30 |

Freedom is a feature.

I have a Realtek chip, but I'm currently not using it, so I can't paste the information you need.
Still, I'm interested in beta testing.

Hey, Regenerat1on
If I remember correctly, it was you who released custom/hacked drivers for SBLive! card owners a while ago, which included EAX 4.0 HD support... There used to be a huge thread on Futuremark forums, just like on this board, dedicated to SBLive!, Audigy1/2 modding and installing Audigy2 ZS and other drivers on them. I do not know why it was removed but that is the thread I've been following for quite a while, and that is where I got the link for your drivers (I still have them around). I liked your idea and they did sound much better with music than Creative's own and old SBLive! drivers. However, your drivers seemed to have a huge bug in them -- they broke a certain AC3 functionality. What I mean is, with the regular SBLive! drivers, if I installed something like PowerDVD or WinDVD player, every other program would use their AC3 driver/filter to play AC3 sound by itself or in movies. Even Windows Media Player would detect PowerDVD's or WinDVD's filter and use it. AC3 still worked when playing content exclussively in PowerDVD or WinDVD though. But with your drivers, it would never detect the proper filters even after manually forcing their registration again. The only solution was to install a custom program called AC3Filter. Too bad because I really liked EAX 4.0 HD support, and a better sound with music. Have you completely abandoned your SBLive! drivers? Is there an updated version to your initial 1.0 release? I visited your webpage that's in your profile but the "Files" section doesn't have anything related to SBLive! There was no way to get a hold of you back then. Your drivers didn't have any info for your e-mail. I was surprised to recognize your name on these forums. But I just signed up, so... Last edited by Elrik; Sep 19, 2004 at 04:21 PM. |

Here's what mine is (from the MSI K8N Neo Platinum nForce3 250Gb): PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00EA&SUBSYS_75851462&REV_A1\3&13C 0B0C5&0&30
I'm using an A2ZS for my primary audio though, so I wouldn't be able to test it much. |

Well I want to help but I've disabled my ALC655 (I'm using MSI K7N2 Delta L). But if I'm not mistaken, if I'm using that Realtek, it's not detected as AC97 but NVidia Sound VAPU... (must be to change the 'AC97' thing on your guide to 'NVidia Sound VAPU'. I hope I can help you later, I hate that chip cause it makes some noises and hums on my right speaker. Even the peak meter on newest NForce driver recognize that.

if you have an nForce 2 with the MCP-T southbridge then you already have soudnstorm, which is what regerat1on is trying to put on non MCP-T motherboards with the ALC chip

I know that it is MCP only, but somehow, the new driver for NForce make that recognized as VAPU/Sonata. But of course, if I use the AC 97 drivers from Realtek, they work for sure. It is a Realtek ALC655 surely, not a Soundstorm.

I have found the Realtek drivers to be a little buggy when applied to my notebook. The performance leaves a lot to be desired also.
Being a notebook, I can only use the onboard ALC650 chip, so any better driver solution is most welcome. The problem with the realtek is have to choose between losing input/output configuration for 5.1 sound and having better performance, or vice versa. Even with the newest drivers, the 24 sound test on 3dMark sees a 15-20% fps hit over no sound. |

I've got a epox 8rda3+ with realtek alc655 codec on it. I'm using realtek drivers right now, not very happy with them though. sound is very low and sometimes distortet. At least winamp now works almost without crackling, cause i use the asio4all drivers and the asio output plugin for winamp. The nvidia audio drivers won't install at all. And the biggest joke is that the release notes for the newer nvidia audio drivers always say something like this:

Got SP2 now, too. So here is my Device ID:
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_006A&SUBSYS_10081695&REV_A1\3&13C 0B0C5&0&30 @Regenration: Are you still working on it? Perhaps you could write a short update on your plans an tell us if you need help. And perhaps include some technical details on what you want to change in the drivers...

xXxLT,
You can get the latest version of those drivers at www.newgenerationorder.org (check the Files/Downloads section). Keep in mind, however, that EAX4.0 may and may not work correctly in some games, since SBLive! is supposedly lacking something in hardware to fully support it. However, in personal experience, some games work without a problem with it but some have certain quirks. For example, you may get strange distortion once in a while but I found that reloading a savegame fixes it or simply walking into a different area in a game. Or at times, if it plays a conversation that is supposed to be a distance away, it may sound as if it's close by. Though that could be a game bug and not the drivers, who knows. Mostly, things work fairly well. Besides, the problems I described were present with the older .0441 release. I have yet to see one in .0444. You might want to find AudioHQ as a seperate installer in one of the LIVE packages out there but change its install path to "Program Files/Creative/SBLive/AudioHQ" if you're using an SBLive card. If you leave it at default path, which excluses "SBLive" folder, the option "Load AudioHQ at Startup" will not function. You could also find something called "ctpanel.exe", also in one of the packages but it lacks SoundFont Manager support. Also, after some more investigating, it seems it does not mess up AC3 decoding in DShow players. The same thing happens with default Creative drivers. So, just insstall AC3Filter (it's called exactly that, search Google) to fix the issue. Last edited by Elrik; Oct 22, 2004 at 08:21 AM. |

I am using the neo k8n platinum with the realtek ac97 sound. I have An optical line out to a KOSS ks4190 6.1 home theater system. I was hoping someone would have a way to use soundstorm on this board as the supplied drivers leave a lot to be desired. I should note that I am having an issue with the computer not using my rear surround speaker at all and I can't seem to overcome it, but will be continuing to use the onboard sound for some time until i can afford an audigy z. Will help all I can. |
