Creative proprietary diginal din

Hi everyone.

I've been trying to do google searches, and searches here, but don't know the exact names to use:
Does anyone know the official name of Creative's stupid proprietary digital din they made?

I have a FPS2000 speaker system and this is the only digital-in option. I now have an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe

I found a link for the 9 pin layout,
http://alive.singnet.com.sg/tech/digital-io.htm (Half way down, round)

but now am wondering if I can even cut the cable open and connect it to anything. For instance, isn't the inside of Digital Coax simply inner and outter wires? That leaves optical and digital minijack. And the m/b I have simply has coax out anyway.

The only thing I can think of is maybe coax-> digital minijack -> 9pin digital din.

Because a single _digital coax_ can handle EVERYTHING, right. 5.1, 6.1, 7.1..
this is only true IF the sources is encoded in AC-3, DTS etc… straigh S/PDIF is STEREO only
