Audigy problem
hi, i just got a shiny new audigy card thinking it would out perform my old live 4.1 card but i get this awful crackling and poping noise (especially in games like Colin Mcrae 04, far cry, ut 2004 and so on). now this poping sounds are not limited to games; sometimes, but very rarely, i hear faint poping sounds when i listen to music or when i just open a folder or whatever.
i tried almost everyting to fix it. i even exchanged the card but it still did not work. i got the latest drivers from creative's site (but they're pretty old - octomber 2003 i think). is there anything better out there i could use(official or not)?pls link me ![]() i haven't yet gotten any new drivers for the mobo but i suspect it won't help; yet i'll do it.i also have to try the turbo patch (you know, the one that meddles with yer registry...but i allready tried that manually and it didn't seem to work). i changed from ACPI uniprocessor to just ACPI and so on. my system is: barton 2600+, cooler Gigabyte pcu21 vg, epox 8rda3+ nforce 2 ultra, radeon 9800SE modded (8 pipelines active), hdd Seagate 120 GB SATA 8 mb buffer, audigy bulk, Samsung 795DF, miditower 400W (the case pretty much sux but the power suply is great ), mouse + keyb...oh and 512 Mb ram cl 2.5 Kingmax. that's about it.thx |

already did. it's one of the first things i tried. sry i forgot to mention.
also it's the only card i have on the pci. i disabled most of the unused onboard devices. i cleared the cables around the card so there will be as little magnetical influence as possible. i installed and reinstalled the drivers time and time again. i also used driver cleaner. i played with PCI latency but i'm not sure what is the best setting (i tried 0, 32 and 64...) though i did not change the AGP latency(my BIOS does't support this) but i presume it's at 32(i'll check to be sure). that's about it |

I have a similar problem with my audigy 1, using audigy 2zs drivers currently.
The problem also occured on audigy 2 drivers (all versions). When playing some games (Soldiers: Heroes of WW2 especially, also BF1942 and H&D2) I get some nasty crackling and popping noises. It's very odd and damn annoying. I might go back and try the audigy 1 drivers (although they're crappy in comparison to the Aud2 ones). |

After investigating further it seems that it does indeed have something to do with the PCI Latency Timer.
I tried increasing and decreasing the value in the BIOS but it seemed to not solve the problem. I will need to try some more values (I can go from 0 -256). You can also try the tool Powerstrip to change the PCI Latency of your cards. System: Abit NF7S 2.0 Nforce 2Ultra, Hercules Radeon 9500pro, SB Audigy 1 Bulk |

My first suggestion would be to install audigy 2 zs drivers on your audigy1.
It may help to solve the problem for some people. |

Something I noticed making a differnce was the 5.1 decoding.
I went into the Audio HQ and set it to pass through only and not decode. Suprisingly enough the bad crackle/ripping sound I had was gone after a restart. It's probably only a workaround but it helps. |

ac-3 passthrough will send any encoded signal direct to the s/pdif outputs

Finally, I seem to have found the source of the problem.
Read here: http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/view...=51034&start=0 I put in my PS/2 -> USB Adapter for my Cherry Keyboard and I've not have any horrible sound glitches since. They also say it is because of APIC, which I have on. The keyboard workaround works with APIC, too. |
