is my LIVE card dying?

alright I have a LIVE! 5.1 card that is fairly new. I got it around May or so and there have been problems from day one...You see in Halo the sound crackles alot with hardware acceleration(and lots of other shit in halo goes wrong). Now I've tried many different fixes including patches, different drivers, registry hacks, etc etc etc etc etc. LOOOOOTS of stuff.

Heres the trouble...

this didnt bother me so much because I just turn hardware acceleration off and things are good.

Games that use EAX 2 run GREAT but anything with EAX is slightly sketch but in Halo its AWEFUL! CS its getting worse and worse by the day. Now when EAX is on and im playing for 30 min or so, the left and right channels go out of sync. So someone will go "Storm the front!" 1 sec gap. Right speaker "Storm the front!"

it sucks

Again though, I felt like i could just turn EAX off and things were good.

This was the last straw...

Now my MP3s and MP4s are making sounds like when you stretch tapes or scratch records while playing music. this is UNACCEPTABLE! I love my music and I cant stand having it sound so bad now.

So tell me...is my card dying?

If you turn off EAX while playing music as well as before, your card survives.

actually i figured out why it was doing so badly this time. A fan fell off and was scraping up the back of the card. I took the fan off and things seem to be great now. I see no scratches or anything.

unfortunatly I still have problems with EAX in games.

btw turning EAX off with music makes no difference.

I installed creative drivers to test EAX in a game an I had issues with "skipping" that weird digital dragging sound...turned out to be an ACPI issue...changing the driver cleared it right up....other than that I use KX

Have you run "Creative Diagnosis"(installed Cracked Audigy ZS Pack or YouP LIVE-NewYear)? Did it show "no problem"?

EAX really exists have the serious problem. But that maybe won't come out after you install them on "pure" Windows.

do you have a sb022x series card? that could be why, as they are the newer live models… as for the fan right next to the card that would cause heaps of problems, RFI from fans is huge

right thats why I moved it. Unfortunatly its still close. Anyway it was doing the sound distortion long before I had it up next to the fan. the BIG problems were just when the fan fell off and was running on top of the soundcard pretty bad I gotta say.

and yea I think its the sb022x. My live card is VERY new. got it in the spring.

try using drivercleaner after uninstalling the CL drivers and software, and then doing a fresh install of the original drivers
