digitial 5.1 from an Audigy 2 zs?

i'm having real problems trying to get digital 5.1 out of my audigy 2 zs, i've tried a few different drivers, an audigy drive bay and a live! spidf card. but neither of the addon bits seem to work with my audigy 2, no-matter what combination of drivers i try.

i have a sony a/v receiver which works fine with the optical out from my onboard (soundstorm) but so far, only managed to get stereo over the digital out from my a2

does anyone have any ideas?

cheers

ok for the audigy 1/live equipment, you have to create a custom cable - see the pinout threads in this forum for more info

but s/pdif is STEREO ONLY, the soundstorm chip encodes the source in dolby digital, which is compressed enough to allow 6 channels through a 2-channel medium

soundstorm is the only soundcard that does hardware ac-3 encoding - your audigy 2 is fine

it's not just the digital that angers me, there's so much about the creative way of doing things that makes me want to not use them, drivers for a start.
