some odd happenings with Z680's

to get 5.1 working with games, ive gotta set it to direct input, with 6 chnl direct for the effect. well when ive got it set to 6Chn i cant up the volume or sub level up past about 1/4 or else it starts going insane. the sub will go wildly out of control and it just sounds like its pickup up reverb and amping it. same goes for the speakers, they wont even play waht ever audio i have on. it just sounds like reverb being ampd.

now if i keep it at 1/4 or lower on the volume control, its just fine. all other effects work just fine (direct stereo, 2x stereo, pl music, pl movie, optical stereo, stereo 2x, pl music, pl movie) any one know of a way to fix this or what may be causing it?

for the direct input im useing the cables that came with the system, and for optical im useing a monster cable optical cable. im useing onboard sound, AC97 which supports 6 channel, 5.1.

what onboard sound are you using, and what connections are you using?

EDIT: do you have a microphone plugged in?
