Understanding CMSS.

I have an Audigy X-Gamer that I recently softmodded to an Audigy 2ZS. I have these CMSS settings that I'm not familiar with. I tooled around with them, and noticed some sound differences, but wasn't sure what the CPU hit was so I did some research.

It turns out CMSS is some sort of 'faked' surround sound? I only have a 2.1 speaker setup that I'm quite happy with, but in reference to CMSS I only see people with 4 speaker setups and higher using CMSS.

Does it work with 2.1? If I set CMSS and then choose Surround Sound in a game, will it work properly?

And what IS the CPU hit of this?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

System Specs

CMSS is useless for 2 speaker setups
it upmixes stereo content to 5.1/6.1/7.1 (Depending on your card)
