Default Post Audigy X WinXP Installation Tidbits.

I found this info and thought I'd put it here to help someone out.

Quote:
Later I came across a workaround to install only the utilities and not the drivers:

Copy the contents of the Audigy CD to your hard drive and edit the audio.ini file, setting WinDrv=0, rather than WinDrv=1. Save the changes, then do a custom install from the hard drive. The drivers will now not be autoinstalled - which does mess with the system when you have newer drivers installed.

Quote:
Why do I get the message "data is invalid" when installing a device driver under Windows XP?

This error appears to be due to a protection problem in the Windows registry and can occur with a variety of drivers (sound cards and SCSI drivers have been reported). To fix this problem, go to Start, Run... and type "regedit" without the quotes to run the Registry Editor. Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\P CI

and you will see a number of keys of the form "VEN_xxxx", where xxxx are strings like "1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_00011103&REV_04". Under each of these folders will be another folder with a long numerical name. Open each folder and look for the "DeviceDesc" which matches the hardware you are trying to install. Right Click on the "VEN_xxxx" for that device and select 'Permissions' and then tick "Allow" for "Full Control". Close Regedit and then continue with the installation of your device.

Default Post Custom Install CD

Found this bit of information...well I can't remember when. I thought I would post it; I do not take responsibility for the contents of these instructions nor have I tried it. Which means don't ask me.

Here is a repost of the process to build a custom install CD. The links to
the compaq driver releases are in it.

Step 1: Download the Compaq 377MB download package
ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp20501-21000/SP20920.exe

Step 2: Download Compaq 150MB download package
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp2...00/SP21636.exe

Step 3: Sound Blaster Audigy DriverPack AUD-WEBUP-W2-US

http://files.asia.creative.com/files...AUDDRVPACK.EXE

or

http://asia.creative.com/support/drivers/newfiles.asp

Burning a new Software and Driver CD

Step 1a: Unpack SP20920.exe to a temp directory with an unzipping tool such
as WinZIP.

Step 2a: Unpack SP21636.exe to the same temp directory as SP20920.exe with
WinZIP overwriting all files.

Step 3a: Unpack AUDDRVPACK.EXE to a new temp folder and copy the Drivers
folder to the Audio folder where you unpacked the first folder overwriting
all files.

Step 4: In the root of the first temp folder, delete all files except
"disk.id".

Step 5: In the first temp folder delete "ctwdmcpq.cat" and "ctwdmcpq.inf"
from the Audio\Drivers\WIN2K_XP folder.

Step 6: In the first temp folder delete Aol.cab and CTOem.cfg in the
Audio\Setup folder.

Step 7: Burn the first temp folder to a CD and use the Setup.exe under
Audio\Setup to install the Creative software and drivers.

If anyone has any updated links or anything to add to this please feel free.
