best MP3 player?

Hey guys,
My boss just asked me about MP3 players and I had nothing to tell him. Maybe you can help me, what would be a good mid ranged MP3 player. links and personal opinions are welcome.

Yeah the sound quality on the irivers is great.

For pure appeal and looks though I think the ipod minis are the sweetest.

We'll need more requirements. How much storage is required? What's it going to be used for?

I have an iRiver discman (SlimX 350) which was the best electronic gadget I've ever owned. Discman, FM radio, Mp3 player, remote, internal rechargeable batteries. I listened to it 5 days a week for 2 hrs a day (commuting) for 2+ years. The remote eventually broke after extremely heavy use, and the batteries won't hold a charge anymore. Replacement batteries were ~$35, and a remote from iRiver is another ~$40, so I went for a more 'discreet' replacement. mp3 discmen are a dime a dozen now, but 3 years ago this device ROCKED. iRiver has a number of newer, better, and now less expensive, models.

To replace my SlimX350 I bought a Muro MP3 player (MR-100). http://www.muro.co.kr/english/

256mb flash memory (better for working out)...radio, microphone. Not too shabby. Works as a jumpdrive too. Pretty good so far... then I saw the clincher. FM Transmitter!

So I can download 2-3 albums to my player, place it on the dashboard of my car, and listen to MP3s. saves me having to buy a new CD player for the car. Pretty slick interface. I'm quite happy with it.

There is a basic choice of 3 types:

1. Flash memory (from 32Mb or less, up 256Mb or possibly more, maybe with card expension)
Flash memory players are, of course, as jog/shockproof as any other piece of electronics with no moving parts.
You can also get them with capability to record from microphone, or play/record from an integral FM radio.

2. Hard drive players - higer capacity, higher price, and need to be treated a little more gently than a pure solid state solution.

Both of the above need to be loaded from a PC (or possibly MAC - check if that's the platform, as while the Apple Ipods presumably support both PC and MAC, most of the alternatives won't bother with the MAC), and can generally be used for data storage as well.

3. MP3/CD player - unlimited storage at 700Mb/CD (or 200Mb if it's a 3" small format model), can also play standard Audio CD
Dependent on a PC with CD writer to create your copilations, but changing ALL the music is as fast as ejecting one CD and inserting another
