M-Audio Revolution 7.1 Trouble

Alright... I just got this thing in my computer and I had ordered it for the undeniable sound quality. But there is one thing that is pissing me off to no end. Crackling.. each song I play there are many cases of crackling and I absolutely cant stand it. Now, does anyone know of some sort of remedy that might help stop it?

The problem with that is that my previous onboard sound did not have the crackling present.....

What media player are you using? You also might want to try to turn down the latency as well. Also, did you download the latest drivers for it?

make sure there is a good connection with the card, blow on the jacks to remove any dust

if it is a latency issue, increase the latency/buffer

Opps yes...increase the buffer...too much Eggnog, and I haven't messed with this card in quite awhile.

Seems as if increasing the latencies have worked... I'll have to some extended testing with it to make sure... but at least it lets me listen to this thing

Edit: Well, it somewhat works... I don't quite know what a good latency to set the thing to would be though....

hmmm I've been trying some random numbers around that.. it somewhat seems to work.. guess I'll have to keep trying... unless its another unknown software error >.>

Edit: And now I can't get the new drivers to install.. going from 1.0.2.6 - 1.0.2.8 and it wont install the newer drivers.. they don't seem to "catch on"

Well, I'm about on the edge of an RMA... everytime it happens I go a little bit more insane... Although I despise the act of going back to my Onboard Sound.. It's better than putting up with this crap. Im sort of desperate so.. if there is any other thing I can possibly do.. it will help.

Does the crackling happen with anything these else other than songs? You also never said what player you're using.

Hmm that sucks.

You've probably already found this but if not.

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.kbase

You might try going in and turning down the acceleration down a notch too.

I also recommend you remove any drivers that were installed for your onboard audio, and make sure everything for onboard audio is disabled. It also wouldn't hurt to check your IRQ's as well.

I disabled my onboard audio through BIOS and uninstalled the drivers... I turned down Acceleration one notch, then two, and increased the latencies. And there still is crackling... I don't think there is anything else I can do.. I even switched it over to another PCI Slot... and I dont have any IRQ conflictions either.

The only other thing I can recommend is trying the card in another computer.

Crap wish I had more for you. I've been goggling around, and not finding much.

However, for shits and giggles try muting your line input once.

BTW, why are you running a PCI video card /w your 9800 Pro?

PCI video card? that could be the cause of the problem. If a device takes up too much PCI bandwidth, the soundcard will experience buffer underruans, aka clicks and pops

try removing the PCI video card and then testing the soundcard

Will do, the reason I run it is because I use it for a secondary monitor.. but someone I know just picked up a new video card and doesnt use his adapter . I'll go test it out without the vid card and check back.

well.. It didn't work.. still popping.. although it is happening less.. also, it only seems to happen in short bursts.. like 5-6 pops every minute or every thirty seconds.

btw, I would like to see if an updated driver would work.. only I can't get the installer to really "install" the driver.. anyone know where I can get just the driver instead of the exe?..

When you try a newer driver are you sure it's not actually updating the driver?

@Necrosis- Yeah, I checked the date on the driver after install and it still says its from 2003.

@FPPfan-I've tried muting everything except the two required and still nothing.

I've been reading around, and it appears when you install the 1028 drivers, it'll still say the 1026 drivers are installed. When it unpack's the drivers you might try to manually install them from the folder it extracts them to. BTW, what motherboard you have?

Doesnt seem as if it "extracts" the drivers to a specific, easy to find place.. it all happens so quickly too O_O , seems to me as if it just sticks them into the windows folder somewhere and "installs" it there.

I decided on keeping the card... I'll just keep it for my next system which I will be getting most likely within a couple months or so... so It'll still be used...
