EAX doesn't work in Battle for Middle Earth

I'm playing LOTR Battle for Middle Earth, when I activate EAX in the sound options every possible sound from the game is muted, not even when the EA Games logo is displayed when launching the game has sound. I have to play with EAX off, which I think it's a waste. Is there any way to fix this issue?

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro with the latest Creative drivers and I haven't found an update for the game.

do other eax capable games work?
