after seeing that start menu i have decided that CL use way too many programs that could be consolidated into a single application

There IS a single application with almost all settings. The Creative audio console lets you do everything but create new EAX presets or upload Soundfonts.

There's also a Creative "audio control panel" that includes an EAX editor. The YouP-PAX NewYear drivers include both, and I think all official drivers have the "ctpanel.cpl" file that just needs to be extracted and put in your windows dir to appear.

No, but you don't have to install them if you don't want them.

I'm running the YouP-PAX NewYear drivers. I just never installed the Creative software.

If you install YouP-PAX NewYear drivers, you will get more functionlity(for example, a new MIDI device,"Creative SoundFont Synth") with the software which audio freak gives

. And multi channels 96KHz/24Bit recording supported on A2N/A4 software .

audio freak, have you managed to install "Telecommande and Entertainment Center" on your OS? (below one is installed on an Audigy2 ZS model:0350. You can get remote control with A platinum card)
