soundcard
Hiya guys,
Right, I'm not very up on pc audio, I've had my nforce2 board for nearly 2 years and always been happy with soundstorm. However, I play guitar/keyboard and would like to do a bit of recording, multi-layers, so I can start to put a few tracks together. Can you give me some ideas of which soundcards would be good for this purpose (perhaps that would include software too), as well as being good for games as I do play most of the big fps games (farcry, maxpayne1+2, cod etc). I'm not particularly bothered about 5.1 or 7.1 or anything like that as I have 2 speakers of reasonable quality and I'm not too interested in anything more. Cheers in advance .ps. I use overclockers.co.uk mostly so something off there'd be cool! http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal..._Cards_11.html

yeah, that was what I was thinking, my housemate's got an original audigy pro which seems pretty good so I thought the audigy 2's would be a good choice, only thing is I've seen a lot of rumours about the drivers not being too great, but I'll probably give it a shot, they seem pretty well priced too

Well, there are kX drivers, they are MUCH better if you want to make some music...
See www.kxproject.com. Good luck!

if you mainly play games, don't bother with kX - it doesn't support eax

well it arrived yesterday and im very pleased. im using a prog called audacity to record my guitar and it sounds great, ive not looked into the creative software much yet, doubt therell be anything incredible, but its cool that i can record acoustic + electric separately on different tracks and next im gonna try my digital piano, hopefully will start getting entire tracks laid .. now i need only to find a good drummer or a drum machine that sounds lifelike. ive tried drumsite 1.1, its a free trial, and it seems pretty good, but not like the real thing

try searching the net for free samplers (i know that the Computer Music magazine comes with one that is quite decent) and some good samples. In the kX Soundfonts forum there are links to various Soundfont sites - you might find a decent drumkit there

if you want a good soundcard for recording, get de audiotrack or terratec, soundblaster is for people that wants to do both (games and music), but in recording, terratec and audio track are more advance, but i guess the creative audigy 4 pro is better, but i don't have one yet.
