2 Questions

1) If I got an Audigy, would I be able to pass a signal with EAX4 effects with hardware positioning etc etc to the SPDIF in of the EMU0404 for improved gaming sound?

2) On the following page, it says that there is a huge problem in the digital domain (drivers) with the Audigy 2 ZS. Do these YouP PAX drivers fix this problem? It would be brilliant if they do!

Edit - I forgot to post the link, sorry I'm a fool lol. Scroll down to where it says "Pity, but we see the same picture. Though now we know the reason is card's digital part, i.e. DSP algorithms. This gives us hope they can be neutralized in the future drivers."

Thanks
Matt

Question updated - sorry

Thanks for the reply dj_stick, on www.head-fi.com some people think that via SPDIF you lose the effects. Such as in the following link. Are they wrong?
http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=104996

Thanks again for the help

i don't think you would lose the effects

i don't use CL drivers, but the only difference between the spdif and analogue outputs are the chips they go through after the DSP - both analogue spdif outputs can be freely assigned using kX

the spdif signals go to the i2s - spdif converters and then to the outputs, and the analogue outputs to the DAC chips

Audigy1's signal of SPDIF passes through SRC which decrease sound quality. Even you got the way to pass the effect, the sound quality will be the same.

Hi Classic Leon, thanks for the PMs about the EMU cards, it's a shame they can't get EAX so I decided to buy an Audigy to pass via SPDIF to the EMU0404 instead.

What's the best choice of Audigy card, assuming I'll be using these drivers?

Do these drivers improve the problem the reviewer in the last link I posted experienced with SPDIF out (ie poor driver resampling at only 16 bit depth)?

http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/...ve-audigy2-zs/

"This excites hope that this problem still can be solved by software. Besides, this card might have been measured with some special drivers. Anyway, this doesn't change the result. And we can't speak of full 24-bit support regarding Audigy2 ZS. Something strange resembling 16 bits is processed even through the digital path."

Thanks
Matt

No problem.
YouP drivers do the same thing to EAX as Creative official drivers do on this question.

Edit: this article is so long

lol sorry about their long review!

So these drivers are as bad as the Creativew drivers for the 24 bit problem?

Would the standard Audigy give me the same quality SPDIF as an Audigy 2 ZS?

Thanks Classic Leon

I don't have a set of digital speakers. So I haven't tried it.
But, Theoretically they are the same.
