I had the same problem when I installed WIN 2000 on my PC. It is relatively easy to fix.
Go to device manager by right clicking on My Computer then select the tab(near the top of the window) that says hardware. Then select device manager. If you have problems finding the device manager just go to your start menu and do a search for devicer manager. Once you are in your device manager there will be a yello question mark followed by the phrase "other devices. click the litle plus to open it. when I did this there was one thing with a little yellow circle and an exclamation point and said somthing with sound in the tittle. Double click this and hit reinstall driver. hit Next, the next window will give you two options just go with the recomended one that is already selected by hitting next. next there will be four choices for search locations. Select Microsoft windows update and hit next (you have to be online when you do this so it can look online for a driver) hopefully it finds a driver and you have sound!
