I am finding a good 5.1 speakers. I have an Audigy 2 ZS that can do the THX, DTS decoding stuff. Do I really need speakers with the decoding device which also does the same job?
Second, what is the best value 5.1 setup I should get to go with the ZS? My 3 year old Altec Lansing 221 finally died. I will purchase this a month or two, so wating for the best deals. I listen to music a lot, games sometimes. I need a good sub, not something like the Z-640 sub. Logitech X530 5 Piece Subwoofer Speaker System Logitech Z5300 5 Piece Subwoofer Speaker System Logitech Z5500 Digital 5.1THX / dts / Digital decoder/wifi Remote Logitech Z-640 5 Piece Subwoofer Speaker System Logitech Z-680 5 Piece Subwoofer Speaker System Altec Lansing AM4100 5Piece Subwoofer Speaker System Creative INSPIRE 5.1 5200 Speaker Creative INSPIRE 5.1 T5900 Speaker With Tweeter I'm looking the best value for money. Something in the midrange. Z-5500 maybe out of reach now. That goes to gigaworks 7.1 5.1 as well |

Nope, the only thing the decoding is useful for is if you're plugging the speakers into a dvd player or the like.
THX doesn't really mean anything for multimedia systems BTW, it's just a gimmick certification. (The old klipsch 5.1 system was thx certified, but they never bothered getting it for the new ones) If you're into music (asuming it's good quality music, and not low bit-rate mp3s) I would really recommend either the gigaworks 5.1 or Klipsch ultra. All of the logitech subs are loose, like the z-640. You can also get set of good quality headphones with an amp for less than a high end multimedia system, if you're really into music.

Back to the option on top as you had mention. A lot of people mentioned that Logitech producces powerful bass which is good for gaming and movies but the satellites are not that great for musics. Inspire Series are overall not so great. And I am not sure about AL series. In your case I will suggest Megaworks 5.1. It is better system for music and has a lot of punch for bass. The price is lower than Z5500 but slightly higher than Z5300. |

what gave me away?![]() Forgot to mention, which of those have detachable wires? and which are good? The My AL died due to built in wires, and no way to open the sattelite to fix/replace it. L ch lower than right. Also which is better, S/PDIF or that normal sound card connection? I think my choices are limited now. Using froogle, the price of Z-5500 is going down every day. Yesterday 270, now 260, hope it will be around the 200 or below area |

The new version of Z5500 has detachable wires... but I am not sure how widely the version has been distributed. In terms of connection you got to wait for someone that had try it.
Why don't you consider Megaworks? I am quite sure Dai, Ikanayam, Alamaklor will support that system in terms of quality for music. Have you thought of Edifier as well? |

If its above RM 1k sorry. I've read extensively about the R501, its good, but control only via remote is dangerous. Remote gone, then no vol control. Its also heavy, 40kg, no adjustable speaker angle is something I would not like. If megaworks is below 1k then ok. Though not something near 1k.. Also is it better to get a speaker which has normal outputs like pc speakers, or the S/pdif. though I only have one S/PDIF connector, not sure if it will work with 5.1. Will it work? I've read some good reviews about the Z-5300. But ppl say the rear wire is short, not sure how short/long it is. Anyone knows?

Don't get me wrong here... I have Z640 with me here and heard of Z5300E (Spend time listening to it). I am just trying to give you my 2c. It is really up to you at the end of it
The Z5300e set is pretty good overall but the sound quality for music is slightly lacking. It has loud bass and I can tell you that it will be great for games. The control is pretty good and has matrix like Z640. The wiring has almost the similar length as Z640. Rear around 5m About the Megaworks, the price tag is slightly over $1000. By the way, I am a nobody in Lowyat and only go there occasionally to get updated news. |
