audigy value + DF = no sound

i installed win2k, all updates. installed Delta Force (by Novalogic) and updated the game, i start playing and within 30second to 2 minutes the sound disappears. i tried both 48 and 44.1 sampling rates, emailed creative tech, they just emailed back, their answer was some bullshit about changing crap in bios, which i already have set the way they want it, so a no go there. im using latest drivers for audigy, downloaded from their site (although the previous ones did the same thing). on winME i never had that problem. all other games on 2k work fine (even DF:LW also by Novalogic doesnt give me this problem, neither does MOHAA or FIFA WC 2k2). so, anyone have any clue what the fuck is going on?

nope got nothing, it's realy weird.

i occasionally lose sound in windows, but winamp and all other media players, as well as other games still have sound.

creative driver support is ridiculously crappy for a company like that...

Do you use a VIA chipset?

as a matter of fact, yes i do use a via chipset.
mobo is an asus cuv4x.

Hmm...

Wonder if it's something iwth the ACPI functions in 2K, making the sound card share an irq? Check and see if anything is sharing an irq with your soundcard. Might as well eliminate the regular stuff first.

well i just checked, has it's own irq.
it's weird, i never had that problem in winME
all other games work fine, although i did notice a bit of sound lag in Fifa WC 2k2, not sure if that went away after restart though, ill check that now and post back. MOHAA and DF:LW work fine though, not even sound lag.

the game is from 1998, so i doubt any updates will be released (we've been begging for one for 3 years now), i guess im just stuck with it

I know how you feel. It's probably due to the fact that older games were written for the Win9x kernel instead of the NT Kernel. Hey, there is something you can try! If you have updated your version of 2K up to date, try running the game in compatibility mode. Right click on the icon for the game, and then properties. You should see a tab for "Compatibility". Select Win98/WinMe and give that a go. Hopefully it will work for you. When I was using 2K I had a number of games that would not work, but since XP "most" of the older games I play work fine.

i tried compat mode as well before all this. under win95/98 the game would not let me play single or mp. under winnt it would work fine but still the sound went away (the game does in fact work on nt).

so i have no clue what's going on.

it's ok though, im $700 short of building my new system, im installing XP on that one. the only reason i'm not running XP here is caus my scanner and some of the software i use dont work on it, but since i will have 2 pc's, it's all good
