Is it possible to run a 5.1 system on a 7.1 card and just plug an extra set of PC speakers to the line out chaneel to run as sides? All i want to know, is it possible?

ok thank you alot, to heck with buyin a new speaker sytem, ill just a set of desktop speakers and plug into the side channel for 7.1

No!!! Don't do that, it sucks very hard! You mean you'll have a original 5.1 original system with a shit pair of another speakers as the side speakers??? It would sound like shit, man! Anyway, you can't do it, cause the outs for 7.1 uses the same 3 connectors of 5.1, but two of these has one terminal more each one (to the left and right sides). So you couldn't plug a separate pair of speakers (thank god)!

Depends, just got a machine that has 4 sockets....
Green = Front (These must be good "prime" speakers, as any unenhanced content will be mostly on these and the sub) Black = Rear Orange = Centre/Sub Grey = Rear surround / Ambience (this is where I'd put the odd pair) |
