Xbox sound woes ??? Please help !

Hi guys,

I have an xbox and an advanced AV kit with optical out on it.

I have connected the optical cable to Audigy 2 NX optical in.

The audigy 2 nx has 3 analog outputs (Front/ Rear/ Center) connected to my logitech z 640 speakers. Logitech z 640 has no digital input function.

On my PC, in the device control for audigy, the spdif input shows as 48Khz and spdif output shows as 44.1/48/96 ( I have it at 48 Khz) but there is no option to disable spdif out.

Also, in the decoder tab I have enabled the "Use installed decoder" and selected Dynamic range compression and Prologic.

When I change my audio options in Xbox dashboard to Dolby surround I get audio through my speakers but if I enable either Dolby Digital or DTS I do not get any sound from the xbox for gaming or watching movies.

However, when I play movies, games on my PC I do not have any issues with sound.

Can someone please help me to get dolby digital sound from Xbox ?

Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

Audigy 2 NX does decode dolby digital but not DTS

Here is the info from the comparsion chart from Creative of all external soundcards

Dolby Digital® AC-3 5.1 Playback Yes

Dolby Digital® EX 6.1 Playback Yes

DTS-ES™ Playback NA

I think it says Dolby digital decoding is supported but not DTS. I am a noob so I may have understood wrong ?

Let me know your thoughts ?

Also I remember that in tomshardware.com review and ign.com review they said the same as above.

Thanks

I'm in the exact same situation as the original poster in this thread. I have an xbox with optical out, an Audigy 2 NX, and coincidentlally enough, the exact same speakers (Logitech Z-640). When I set my dashboard options to Dolby Digital, I get no sound. Upon doing some research, it appears that the NX does not support Dolby Digital from external sources, aka the optical in. (So why the hell have an optical in if you can't decode the 5.1 from it??). I'm researching ways to decode the 5.1 signal using software but so far I think we're both out of luck on this one.

Yeah, you need a DD decoder on your card (most creative ones suck anyways). Run a hardware decoder from the xbox that changes it to say 6ch rca that you can use an adapter on. And leave it to creative and their monopoly to be the ones who have it...

Of corse you have to be willing to shell out the regular play money...
