None that I know of.... SACD uses Direct Streaming Audio technology... SO ya need a supplementary chip in your drive (which isn't cheap).... I think ya need even a new type of laser.... (but I could be wrong)....
But no, there aren't CD-ROM drives that can read SACD...... |

Anyway, SACD is worse than DVD-Audio, which almost every DVD player can play...so why bother with Super Audio CDs...I'd rather have 5.1 surround than "really good 2.1". hehe

SACD is much better than DVD-Audio, it's history that repeats itself (remember Betamax vs VHS?), SACD is better (hybrid SACD even let you use your old CD player), but it's expensive and less easy to find....... DVD-Audio is less good, but almost everybody who has a DVD player can read them.......
But, anyway, if you don't use audiophile components with DVD-Audio or SACD, you won't hear any difference with normal audio CDs...... |

The biggest issue of course is in being able to copy both of these formats. In which so far the players only offer analog out. If I remember correctly you need a special DVD player to correctly play the DVD audio?? Matter of fact wasn't there a thread on DH about this very subject? I think for now my choice would be SACD's just because they seem to work with more equipment. The whole thing reminds me of the DAT & DCC issue a few years back. P.S. You know "someone" with the right knowledge and skill in SMT could easily mod of these players for digital out. |
