My new soundcard :) not audigy
I got myself a new sound card just for music now. I only play CS and 90% of the time I listen to music on my HiFi constantly or headphones (through amp):

E-MU 404

YEAH! I only do stereo so this sound card is all I need butreading comments on it on these 2 forums it must be the best sound card you can get for perfect sound reproduction:

but realistically id get a 0404 if i didn't play so many games.

yeah bit expensive.. anyway the card didnt come cause the delivery man didnt find my address (part of it was missing AHH not my fault) so i am getting in tuesday

the 0404 is fine for stereo playback. The 1212 is for more serious stuff, ala recording etc.

sounds like you have a pretty decent card on your hands. Please post your opinion of it when you do get it

why good luck? This card is far better for stereo listening, drivers, support and sound engineering (recording, manipulation).

I wont have EAX in games and maybe I will use slighly more CPU cycles when playing games, which I somehow doubt.

Anyway company is acctually owned by Creative Labs, but thank god completly different people work there and design the cards...

the audigy 2 zs is not very good for the price when it comes to non gaming, you can get better cards from hercules and terratec.

the E-MU series is still based on the 10k2 architecture like the audigy cards, but they use the chip differently, aswell as having higher quality components

Oh got it this morning. IT SO would not install because of the new pax new years audigy drivers. So I did a fresh Install cause I didnt want to play around trying to find out why the E-MU 0404 drives would crash during install.

anyway fresh windows install = nice quick e-mu install.

sound quality?
mhhh I don’t know all I can say is it sounds amazing... but much better then the audigy 2 zs.. yeah I would say it sounds better, but not by much, but it could be my head playing tricks on me.

What I can tell you though is that it passed the clipping test:

yeah that’s a first for a creative card.

Oh and DJSticks.. the card is physically different from the audigy and audigy 2zs.. the chip on it is a different size and the e-mu has 2 chips on the board not one.

oh and the sound effect are a blast to play with...
but I should get back to work.. dissertation hand in 3 weeks

UPDATE:
bass comes accross thighter and sounds a lot better. not plocebo... an improvement for sure..
