Soundstorm SPDIF IN issue

Anyone know what can be done, or at least why it happening...

I connect a Spdif signal which is carring a 44.1khz 16 bit signal into the spdif in on my
n-force2 motherboard that has soundstorm audio. I enable it in the mixer and it plays back but at a higher pitch, like its playing too fast. Then for kicks i took the spdif out of one of my pc's which i would think would be 48khz, into the spdif in, and it played back correct pitch, but with a consistent click every sec or so.

any thoughts?
