Sound cracking/freezing problem

I have a friend who has his computer freezing and then having this weird noise after the freezing. At first, I thought it could be a video card problem (i had a similiar problem before. Fixed it by disabling something in the video and updating). Fixed that video thing, but it still happened.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Sound drivers (and updating). Still happens. I thought it only happened when he plays games. Found out it happens if he's just in Windows XP.
Don't exactly know why it happens. That and my worst software experience is usually fixing sound.
Hell, the problem may not be noise, but I don't know exactly.

His specs:
Athlon 64 3200+ 90nm (939)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS.
MSI RS480M2-IL Radeon xpress 200 motherboard (PCI-express)
Sapphire X800XL

Hi

There have been a Squeal of Death discussion on Creative Forum, but I do not know if it's your problem. Go and check it.

Description - http://oui.com.br/nando/essays/audigy/t03audigy01.htm
Creative SOD thread (#2) - http://forums.creative.com/creativel...essage.id=9166

Some PC manufacturers have made BIOS updates to fix this Audigy issue.
