Owners of SB Live! 5.1 LS (SB0229, aka SB0220) with CD: Please read this!
OS: Win98SE
Problem On the "Speakers" menu in Surround Mixer of my SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 LS card, "5.1 speakers" is not available, only Headphones, 2/2.1 speakers and 4/4.1 speakers. Printed on the card is "Model SB0220", which is near to meaningless. The actual model identified through the Serial No is SB0229. Question I suspect what's wrong (see "More information" below). To test my hypothesis and publish the results in this forum, I only need two small files from an original SB0229 Installation CD: D:\Audio\Drivers\98SE_ME\Data\ctp0229v.dat D:\Audio\Drivers\WIN2K_XP\Data\ctp0229w.dat Plus (would be nice, but maybe not required): D:\Audio\Setup\data1.cab D:\Audio\Setup\data1.hdr Anyone willing to help, please send me a Private Message to arrange a convenient way to transfer the files. More information I use the original Installation CD from another SB0220 (actually a SB0224) and have applied the CTComp patch, which solves the infamous "Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster Audio card on your system..." error by adding the SB0229 to the list of supported cards in CTComp.dat, which is in Data1.cab. After setup of drivers and software has completed successfully (?), the SB0229 is shown in Device Manager as "Creative EMU10K1 Audio Processor (WDM)". From experience I know that any correctly installed SB Live! 5.1 card is shown in Device Manager as "Creative SB Live! series", but only if Creative software has been installed correctly. If you install the same card with "drivers only" and no software, the card will show as "Creative EMU10K1 Audio Processor (WDM)" in Device Manager. Next, any SB Live! 5.1 Installation CD has a "Data" folder for VXD and a "Data" folder for WDM setups. Each folder contains .dat files that clearly refer to model no.'s. That's exactly what I think is missing: the two .dat files for my SB0229. Thank you! |
