Is this possible?

Greetings PAX crew. I recently stumbed over your drivers and although the endless amount of responses in regards to them are impressive, I hope to save myself some time by honing in on the nitty gritty of what I want from my creative soundcard (to be).

All I want the creative card to do is provide it's EAX features for environmental sound positioning bliss for 3D games. That's all. I guess I should mention here that the role of music and DVD playback will be undertaken by another card. The plan is to cut out as much of creative software, and drivers as humanly possible to ensure a small-footprint install, whilst maintaining working (and non-stuttering) sound for 3D games. I'm under the impression that I might be able to buy a low-end Audigy card, and upgrade it's "features" (specifically the ones relating to 3D games - EAX etc) through your PAX driver updates. I also wish that the creative soundcard will use hardly any system resources to achieve it's minute tasks.

Understanding what I want from the creative card, how does one go about such an install? Is it possible for a start? Please inform me

you can buy a regular audigy card, but realize that there are some hardware differences between each series of audigy's.

I personally have an Audigy 2 zs and with the beta pax audigy 4 drivers I get all capabilities of an audigy 4 in theory. However, because there are fundamental hardware differences (like different DAC's) the sound quality "should" be better on the audigy 4 than 2. But the drivers unlock all the potential your card has.

You may choose to only download the PAX drivers (around 15MB) and it only contains the drivers to make it work, and it contains a very small Audigy console that provides config for CMSS and EAX. Most people recognize the other Creative software as the bloat... there is another package that installs a bunch of software utilities that basically provide a "nicer" interface to make all the config changes.... all of which can be done with the small 15MB driver instead of the 200MB package with all the software.

Just make sure you get an audigy card that is compatible with the PAX drivers. there are certain models (Audigy Value I think) that don't use the same hardware and therefore are not compatible.

After doing some searching for creative soundcards, it seems that the options available are not as plentiful as I once thought. Nevertheless, you can still find Audigy2 ZS's at quite low prices, so I guess that's the right poison for me.

RCOrdorica: if you or anyone else would be kind enough to link to (or specify exactly) the 15MB (with small Audigy console) PAX Audigy4 drivers, I would be eternally grateful.

A dozen thanks for your help , and of course the creator(s) of the PAX drivers!

Audigy2/Audigy2 ZS that is able to be turned to a "real" Audigy 4 (better get a Platinum version) has one more chip that Audigy (one). Get a Audigy2 ZS that is not expensive.
Then download hacked Audigy4 Pro CD ISO from BT, http://128.54.251.238:6969/ that is hosted by RCOrdorica.

Though that Audigy4 ISO contains all the software aswell - couldn't I just get the PAX ZS-V4.00 drivers? I'm led to believe that they are Audigy4 drivers modified for compatiblity with Audidy/ Audigy2/ Audigy2 ZS soundcards. Or am I misunderstood?

yes, the drivers alone unlock the Audigy 4 features, and your card even becomes identified as an Audigy 4 in the Device manager and dxdiag. The ISO just provides some more specific tweaking applications such as the THX calibrator.

But the PAX drivers come with a small program like I said before that allows you to change the important stuff, like speaker amount and CMSS/EAX.

Great! Just had to make sure I had the facts correct - the last thing you want is installation woes.. though I probably will experience an IRQ conflict between the A2ZS and other devices.. but at least I'm prepared

Thanks again!
