Sad Audigy 1 Gamer Squeal Lockup

I am still getting the squaling lockup problom for windows xp and i can't figure out how to fix it. I got the drivers off a website i found that were apparently supposed to fix it. http://oui.com.br/nando/essays/t03audigy01.htm

But for some reason i can't get them to work, i continue to get the error. here is what i have done:

tried installing them using their setup files - didn't work

tried uninstalling all sound drivers and programs, removed the card from device manager, rebooted, canceld windows automatic installation, then went to device manager, then update driver, chose from location and have disk, and directed it to the inf file in the extraction folder of the drivers package i got from that webpage. rebooted, still got lockup. i tried this with both the 377mb driver pack, and the 154mb driver pack.

i then proceded to search websites for the audigy 2 drivers and happend upon this website and its thread regarding audigy 2 drivers on a audigy 1 card. i downloaded them and tried installing them through the setup file, and got the same error once again.

i am thinking other people got this problom fixed as thats the impression that site i listed earlier gave me so its my assumption i am doing something wrong. I could really use some help with this and any help toward getting this fixed would be greatly appreciated, as i don't have money to go out and buy the audigy 2 card.

kX is what I wanted to suggest.
You can use prologica if you want 5.1 surround setup.
Here is a little guide written by Max M.

>Yeah, maybe pseudo surround is what I want...

Then maybe you should do something like this (just one of the pooppilion possible variations):

1. Open kX DSP (reset it to default if it is not).

2. Load "ProLogica" module ("add effect/plugin"->"surround")

3. Connect outputs of "10 Band EQ" to inputs of the "Prologica"
(lot->Lt, rot->Rt)

4. Connect outputs of "Prologica" to "Epilog" inputs in following order:
L -> out0
R -> out1
Ls -> out8
Rs -> out9
C -> out17

This gives you an "surround" when listening to stereo sounds.

As for adding subwoofer to above setup you can do like this:

5. Load "Summ" plugin.
6. Connect outputs of "10 Band EQ" to any inputs of the "summ" (without disconnecting eq from prologica!)
7. Load "EQ Lowpass"
8. Connect output of "summ" to first input of "eq lowpass"
9. Set "EQ Lowpass"'s Freq to 120Hz and width to minimum (via "tweak")... (you can modify them later according to your taste)
10. Connect first output of lowpass to epilog's input "out18"

That will copy bass sounds from left/right into subwoofer (but not "move/redirect" them...)

Something like that...
(yep, crazy thingy , phhh)

Be carefull,

/Max

Two questions.

Does your motherboard have the 815 chipset on it, and do you have a 3COM eithernet card?

Dell systems seemed to be plagued with this problem. Your best bet is to make a post in the Creative forum since there is a number of visitors there that have had this problem. There is even a guide "I think" that may help you solve this. The symptom is known as SOD or Squeal of Death. I cannot remember the actions you need to take to fix this problem. However, I do remember reading Dell has released some bios updates which are specifically for your problem. You also may want to browse around in the Dell support forum for any updates.

Here is the address for Creative's news server.

Update the BIOS. I think that is what Dell said to do if you got that issue.

When I had the original Audigy with my 8kha+, I experienced this problem too. None of the fixes worked and I eventually wounded up switching it out with my older Santa Cruz. Much to my surprise, this "squeal of death" still occured with the Santa Cruz (even after a clean reformat). This lead me to believe that there was something else wrong with the system.

For me, I fixed it by upping the voltage on my processor, which was NOT overclocked at the time. After exhaustively going over one area of the computer over another, I came to the conclusion that that the PSU was not regulating enough juice to the CPU when the system was stressed. Although this did not cause the machine to reboot or exhibit any of the usual symptoms associated with an underpowered PSU (which it wasn't - Antec 350w), it was enough to make it appear as if it was the sound card causing the problem. Bumping the voltage up by .05 seemed to have corrected all stability problems regardless of which card I used after that.

Hmm interesting...

I've seen quite a few Dells systems with meager power supplies in them. Renegade you might want to check the wattage on your supply.

Check around your PS for a label and see what the wattage is on it. A friend of mine only had a 200 Watt. in her's. I was quite appalled.

ok after talking with my uncle he explained some of the power things to me, based on how wall outlets work etc... i then checked the system specs in the manual dell sent with the system and it is indeed 200W :/

so rather then dump money into another sound card, i will first buy a new power supply... do you have any recommendations on which one i should look for? or something specific feature wise that it needs to include?

I recommend an Antec, Enermax, or Sparkle. Preferrably 400 watts. 350 should be the bare minimum.

You may not be able to just go out and purchase just any power supply. Dell sometimes uses specially keyed atx connectors so you have to use a power supply that has the same pin layout. I would recommend you borrow a PS off a friend and try it first. If that works than you can pick up whatever you want. However, if it does not PC & Power Cooling does sell special supplies for Dell systems.

If you stick an ATX power supply in a Dell ATX connector, you WILL kill your motherboard. Replace your motherboard AND PSU, THAT is your best bet.
