Tracing the white noise.

Hi there:

I have an SB Live! and usually hear a faint white noise hiss from the speakers. I used to think that the grounding, the speaker's quality (home made!) or some other electrical problems where causing the hiss. But recently I tried the KX drivers and just like that the hiss was gone!

The thing is that I really game a lot and I like the EAX effects and all that shit. So I just bought an Audigy 2 Value and guess what? The hiss is here again!

Can someone give an idea of what is causing the noise? What does the KX drivers do so that the hiss is eleminated?
To tell you the truth the noise is bearable but now that i know that it is likely software related I want to do something about it.

Hmm, could be something to do with latencies, or even PCI latencies. I've never heard this on my card.

microphone pre-amp?

mute the mic input and check for the noise

Mmm! The funny thing is that muting the main output stopped the noise with the SBValue! However, it is still present with everything muted but the main output and the wave device.

In the other hand, with the Audigy 2 even muting everything wont work . I will try to physically add high frequency low pass filter at the pre-amp. Im guessing that this may be done automatically at sofware level at some point by the KX drivers, but not by the CT drivers.
