NF8 drivers...Help me for the love of god

Hello everyone.

I just completed my first build from scratch, took 3 days and a lot of frustration, but windows is up and I've reached the promised land of the internet.

System:
Abit NF8-V
AMD Athlon 64 2800+
80 Gig WD/160 Gig Maxtor
512 Mb Kingston HyperX DDR400
BFG Tech GeForce FX 5600 128 MB

w/ an Audigy 2 ZS that won't be nice to me

any attempt to play audio streams is met with a "no audio hardware available/responding"

I've gotten the impression that I should update codecs, and I have nVidia's audio only codec pack downloaded, but to my shame I'm not sure where to unpack it to, and there is no setup/installer included.

I beg of you, help me out here. Step by step, as though you were talking to a 7-year-old. I can fix a transmission, but drivers yet vex me.

Thanx, people. I know you'll be a big help.

**Edit**
The Audigy driver install CD tells me there's no Audigy present, i've gotten the same in different PCI slots, so the card should be alright.

check the device manager to see if your sound devices are conflicting with anything

Multimedia Audio Controller and NForce PCI System Management are sharing IRQ slot 10. I'm guessing that isn't good. Is there a way I can fix this?

"Multimedia Audio Driver" sounds like you haven't installed drivers for your chipset sound device. Try that - there should be no conflict on that

also does your audigy card show up in the device manager?

No, my Audigy isn't showing up in device manager.

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not entirely certain how to update my mobo's audio drivers. I've dl'ed the NForce3 driver pack, but ime not sure what to do with it. It includes .dll's and .sys files, and two .exe's that uninstall previous drivers. Do I just copy the contents of the audio pack into C:\WINDOWS\system32?
