??? Advantages

On the whole what are the advantages when using SB Audigy 2 drivers with a SB Audigy 1 Card?
DVD-Audio, Dolby Digital EX, more Stability?

Oscar is on a distinguished road

I have spent the whole day testing different combinations of application and driver revisions on my SB Live! 5.1 Platinum. Here are my findings:

1) Necrosis's Audigy2 CD Pack v5.12.1.283 + Audigy2 Official Driver Pack v5.12.1.323 = Condition 1

2) SoftPaq SP22563 (v5.12.1.253) + Mixed Driver Pack (pulling those from v5.12.1.323 and then overriding those in Necrosis's) = Condition 2

3) SoftPaq SP20920 (v5.12.1.444 Rev. B) + Mixed Driver Pack (pulling those from v5.12.1.323 and then overriding those in Necrosis's) = Condition 2

4) Offcial SB Live! DriverPack (v5.12.1.444) + Mixed Driver Pack (pulling those from v5.12.1.323 and then overriding those in Necrosis's) = Condition 2

5) Offcial SB Live! DriverPack (v5.12.1.444) + Drivers v5.12.1.283 = Condition 1

Condition 1

Are you kidding me!? These drivers were coded by Creative, you are NOT actually expecting them to work, are you???

Condition 2

With digital connection, only three channels (left, centre, right) were present in AudioHQ's testing mode. With analog connection, only four channels (left, right, rear left, rear right) were present in AudioHQ's testing mode.

S/PDIF was completely broken in movies, all PCM signals (Dolby Digital/DTS) could not be picked up by the receiver and were translated into high-pitch noises.

Even with the utilization of a software decoder (such as PowerDVD), the centre channel was still absent in both digital and analog modes (no dialog could be heard in movies, either).

EDIT RIV@NVX:
It is 323, not 321

Applications & Drivers

6) Necrosis's Audigy2 CD Pack v5.12.1.283 = Condition 1

7) SoftPaq SP22563 (v5.12.1.253) = Condition 3

8) SoftPaq SP21636 (v5.12.2.252) = Condition 3

9) SoftPaq SP20920 (v5.12.1.444 Rev. B) = Condition 3

10) Offcial SB Live! DriverPack (v5.12.1.444) = Condition 3

Condition 3

There was a half-second delay in movie playback in about every 7 seconds or so. The card would sometimes fail to send DTS signals to the receiver (it's a Creative Inspire 5700, by the way), causing interruption or complete silence. The volume for headphone was also *way* too low.

I will post the best SB Live! drivers that I have tested so far in my next message... I find myself keep going back to these due to the incompetence of Creative Labs......

Full Set of LiveWare3:
1. English (Default), Brazilian, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish; 334MB
2. English (Default), Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese; 217MB

LiveWare3 WinXP Update: English

WDM Drivers v35.12: English (double-click on "upddrv2k.exe" to install)

(I have an English-only set of LiveWare3 which is around 57MB, but I couldn't find anywhere to put it online......)

You downloaded a lot - how many GB of files related to Creative drivers you have?
And BTW, have you ever tried kX?

Microsoft Windows Driver Version Classification

As you can see below Creative drivers do not support
DirectX 8.X or higher they only support DirectX 7.0
If anyone is having DirectSound problems, this is most likely
why.

Creative Current driver for Win2K/XP = 5.12.1.323

DVDKingdom, speaking of devices support, I think it is possible to support all devices that are supported by kX - I have been checking something, and what you need is subsys ID:

EMU10KX.DeviceDesc8="kX 10k1 Audio - Model CT4850 Value"

%EMU10KX.DeviceDesc8%=KX_EMU10KX, PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0002&SUBSYS_805101102 - connection is obvious!

00811050

There are similar numbers, just you need to understand which ones to take. Try. OK?

BTW, where do you search for Device IDs?

EDIT:
TYPO fixed!

I get the Device ID's from Creative themselves.
I download some of their old driver updates and
took the codes from the ctcomp.dat in those drivers.

I will look into the Kx.inf today & try to add more cards.

Thanks for your info.

Not sure that the classification applies to Audio drivers .... ALL the WDM versions seem to be 5.x, even for Win98.

Ther may also be a GENERIC way to specify hardware - I've seen it in the INF for my Intel-based Network card

The SUBSYS part is not specified, only the VEN, DEV (and sometimes REV)
This may not be precise enough in this case though, as the cards are more complex and have more than one subsystem.

Look at kx.inf for example:
EMU10KX.DeviceDesc35="kX 10k1 Audio - General"
EMU10KX.DeviceDesc36="kX 10k2 Audio - General"

%EMU10KX.DeviceDesc35%=KX_EMU10KX, PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0002&CC_040100
%EMU10KX.DeviceDesc36%=KX_EMU10KX, PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0004&CC_040100

There is no SUBSYS always...

Yes Audigy 1. I'm still trying to dig up more models
of PCI512, Live 5.1. I will also re-test patch with

I can't help but look at all this effort to make these drivers work on older cards commendable. However, it is a big reason why Creative sucks too. I guess I just have personal limits as to how much BS I can tolerate to get something to work right.

Good Luck

I've installed here, portuguese drivers, running fine with all updates.

But i had to install each soft separately, because patch didn't work here.

1. What is your cards model number?
2. Card Family IE (Live, Audigy, etc.)?

It might not be on patch file if not I will
try to update it.

Thanks in advance.

The reason I ask is because I've just uploaded
Installer Patch 5.0 which has more cards & was
tested on the new Multi-Lang pack.

I've tested 2 langs so far besides english
spanish, dutch.

You apply the ctcomp.exe file to

"\Audio\Setup\" on the full CD or

main directory from the driver update file mentioned the 1st
post of this thread.

LoL

Yes, I have. I've even donated to the kX Project once. I didn't have much luck getting it to work last time around though... (The problem was mainly the Digital PIN connection, I reckon.) I will probably test the latest version today and see how it goes.

Good Luck
You have been doing great, my friend. The fault is Creative's, not yours. I would like to add my thanks for your effort as a community member, as well

RIV@NVX & DVDKingdom > Thank you for your effort, too

hum. Sorry, after 4 download the .zip of 687mo is NOT damaged effectivly.

so, cuz my english is not so fluent (it's a bit hard for me to read the topic completly), now all I need is to apply ctcomp to this pack and try if the apps work w/ my live! ?

thanks.

EDIT : 2025 files on zip file, 1761 after dezip :| the rest is CRC ... after 4 downloads ... I think i'll keep .253 softs and .323 drivers ...

Anyone have a multilanguage Link?

As there is a link for the Audigy 2 CD posted by RIV@NVX I think I may be allowed to ask for a link to the Multilanguage Audigy 2 CD.

I would really like to install it in my language.

Can anyone pm me a link for it?

Another question is if the multilanguage version will work with DVDKingdom´s patch...

Thanks for any help!

Regards

ME
