Only with /audio/SurMixer (and even with /audio in totality), there is the icon in the systray, but double click doesn't do anything and simple click (to bring the sound slider) juste bring a grey square of about 10 pixels.

Re: About speakers problems

Ok, Audigy 1 owners not getting 5.1 or 4.1 sound, HeLL got me out of troubel with his tip.

2. Open Eax console and surround mixer for test the speakers moving the balance/fade dot around, and winamp playing anything.
3. Disable all audio effects if you had enabled anything (othertwise doesn't work!).
4. Enable CMSS 3D, in CMSS 2 mode. Now you have sound in all speakers, but you don't like this effect, so...
5. Click on default button.
6. Now you will have CMSS 3D disabled (verified that the central speaker is not sounding as is normal in this scheme for winamp) but rear speakers are sounding perfectly! You can move the dot in balance/fade panel to test.
With HeLL's alternative (enabling CMSS2, then clicking default in EAX Control (thus disabling CMSS2 again) AND clicking default in Surround Mixer) I got 4.1 in Winamp and games and 5.1 with PowerDVD

What does not work correctly
Enabling CMSS(2) permanently isn't the way to go in my opinion. Fact is this enables Virtual surround and this is not what you would want when playing games that support real surround sound when you own 4.1 (or 5.1, etc.).

Let me state clearly this is my opinion and you might feel differently: 5.1 is for watching DVD movies only. Otherwise 4.1 is what you should get and if I use CMSS I get 2.1+centerspeaker and CMSS2 gives me 5.1 all the time. No CMSS gives me 2.1, but with HeLL's trick I got the correct setup.

I tried it on my Audigy Gamers and so far so good..
I'm *finally* getting 5.1 sounds on my setup, music now uses all 5 speakers, and 5.1 finally is detectable on windvd..
There's only 1 thing that i been wondering about, and that is a file called "CTHELPER.EXE"..
If i disable it from starting, i get crappy 5.1 sounds, like low sounds, but once i run it, i get kickass 5.1..
So anyone knows what it is and why it's a must run file?
I remember disabling that file on my old audigy 1 drivers, so makes me wonder if that's why i never got 5.1.. hmm..

ARGH!!!!

OK, so suddenly I'm unable to open the speaker settings app. It says my card isn't designed for the program. IT USED TO WORK FINE!!! I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, but to no avail Any ideas?

EDIT/UPDATE: I finally managed to fix it after doing a total uninstall, finding ALL remnant Creative files on the hard drive (including all the crap in the system folder), and finding all rouge registry keys left over.

Then I reinstalled only the drivers and updated them to .323. I think installed the programs individually and updated the ones with updates available.

Things now work as they should

Strange noise

Hi!

On my PC (audigy 1) everything works fine with the audigy 2 drivers, except for one thing: I can hear strange noise when I do something with my mouse. Not when I am moving it! there is no "sound", but for example when I scroll down in Internet Explorer (with my mouse-wheel), or when I click a link or something like that. I have to put up the volume very high to hear it. I have an audigy 1 card with the latest audigy 2 drivers (.323 i think?) Has anybody an idea what this could be? I haven't had this prob with my audigy 1 drivers. And, I have no IRQ conflict...

thx
Chris

Maybe a VIA PCI Latency patch can do the thing - do you have VIA chipset on mainboard?

My configuration:
Epox 8KHA+ (Via KT266A - Chipset)
512 MB RAM
Athlon XP 1600+
Soundblaster Audigy 1 Platinum Ex
ATI All In Wonder Radeon 8500DV
running Windows XP, SP1

Hmmm, maybe yes ... I have no VIA drivers installed at all. Is this VIA PCI Latency included in the 4in1 drivers?

No, it isn't. Try to install Hyperion 4in1 4.45 first, and if it doesn't succed, go here.

Audigy2 wdm on 98se w/audigy1 card

---- edit 19jan03 6pm ----
the CD i made works to install everything, (audigy2 drv/aps on 98se with audigy1 card) .... but is maybe some missing in steps listed here. .... Will try and recreate & repost, if anyone wants.
---------------------------

if anyone still had problems with other install methods, maybe try this. This worked for me, and the other ways didn't.

Will install Augidy2 apps & v-323 wdm drivers direct, on 98se with Audigy1 card, w/o any previous drivers or updates. Should work also with Live5.1, will try that tomorrow. (maybe works for everybody too?)

Uses same installs as you are already mixing/using, excpt make one complete cd image before installing any of it.
Preferable then Burn an Install CD of the image. Re-inserting CD after burning, allow the Autorun.inf to run and take you thru the install. It will install as if it were an orig install CD, (excpt it works with Audigy1 & lives), and install everything with one install, with the normal choices of Full or Custom install.

Only these files used:
1. sb_install_multilang.rar
http://users2.ev1.net/~dallasstar/sb..._multilang.rar
2. AUD2DRVL11021217.exe
http://files.americas.creative.com/c...VL11021217.exe
3. wdma_evil_emu.rar
http://www.republika.pl/evil_one2/wdma_evil_emu.rar
4. ctcomp.exe
http://members.aol.com/dvdking2001/Pub/ctcomp.exe

Steps i used:
1. Uninstall and remove current SB apps, drivers, folders, Sb related inf files (in windows/inf folder), Sb related Reg entries. (also for me, removed all left over kXmixer & kXdriver Reg entries, but i'm putting kX back after all this experiment).

2. Extract sb_install_multilang.rar to a new folder (sb_install).

3. Goto the Drivers folder created by that extract, and delete or rename the 98se_me folder

4. Goto the Setup folder created by that extract, and delete or rename the Aol.cab file.

5. Extract *Just* the drivers folder in AUD2DRVL11021217.exe using WinRar to the Audio folder (in sb_install), and let it "overwrite everything"

6. Extract the files in wdma_evil_emu.rar to the Drivers folder (in sb_install). This step may not be necessary, cause not sure it does anything for this install image, but its part of what i did.

7. Copy ctcomp.exe to the Setup folder (in sb_install).

9. Goto Setup folder (in sb_install), and run ctcomp.exe and point it to "sb_install\audio\setup", but it will show that by default already.

10. Now burn a CD with the contents of the "sb_install" folder. Don't include the "sb_install" folder, only the contents of "sb_install" folder, (files and subfolders) ... just being specific here

11. After CD is done, reinsert CD, and let "autorun.inf" do its thing, and install everything ... ok, can run "setup.exe" in root directory of CD instead, if need to.

12. Exit Audigy2 install when finished and reboot, volume will prolly be loud first time. First thing after reboot, goto control panel/multimedia and set advanced properties for playback to Suround speakers or what speakers you have.

Only thing left is to update Apps, if u want.
(didn't try including updated apps in CD image, yet)

Everything Audigy2 works, diagnostic, calibration, balance/fader in mixer, etc.
This was only way i got it all to work anyway.
Plus its just one install for everything too.

What, exactly, does the Evil driver DO?

The readme says it's a replacement... but doesn't say for what.

Why would I install that, when the 323's are running fine on my A1?

@Fabian2406:
Yes, this driver is for both 2k and XP.
@Gurm:
If everything is working, then you don't need it.
From what I understand, this Evil () driver is for enabling digital output on Live! (because it doesn't work using Audigy2 drivers.).

FAQ is a bit updated, check it out

well, it didnt work w/5.1 card

Replaced Audigy1 card with Live5.1 and repeated steps for install in my prev post.

CD installed everything, but speaker-set, diagnostic, and Eax console wouldnt work.

So ...
Uninstaled calibrate and speaker-setings console then worked.
Uninstaled diagnostic and said forget that part.

Then got idea ...
Uninstaled EaxConsole and AudioHQ, and installed AudioHQ from the old compaq 377meg install set.

Worked, and old style EaxColtrolPanel is there in that AudioHq, and all the new Eax settings are there, i think anyway .. just old style window.

getting sound from all 5.1 speakers, but no way i see to set cmss on or off, with this now mixed install... it must be on now? .. i duno

i need to sleep now, whew

Have you tried the normal installation first (without mixing, just install .283 and then .323)?

You probably haven't applied CTComp patch to .283 driver pack, that is it. Am I right?

1. download all links and unpack

- wdma_evil_emu.rar

2. uninstall the soundblaster audigy progs and drivers.

3. reboot the machine. after reboot, 2 windows pop up.
push on both windows "cancel".

4. go in the Audigy2divers folder. choose CTZAPXX.exe
install the wdm driver.
after this, reboot you machine.

ok, all works fine. and in the device-manager from windows, you can see (creative sb audigy). but at here come my problems:

5. go in the sb_install_multilang folder. than go to the
CTRUN folder and klick on the start.exe.

i choose to install the audigy software. after them a error
message pop up "didnt find a soundblaster card"

and if i install the programs from these folders:
ASR or AudioHQ or Diagnose ... (DVDAudio, EAXCon, MiniDisc restore, SF8Mgr, SpkCal, SpkSet, SurMixer)
a error message pop up "the installshield engine (ikernel.exe) does not install. the system can't find the ikernel.exe"
