how to save the installed driver (dlls etc.)?
k, let me explain. i think i have installed different parts of some audigy drivers by chance, and now my eax1 is working like i ve wanted it for a long time ^^
now i just want to get all the currently used dlls and so on in an installable pack so i can use it after reinstall etc. what is the easiest way to do this ? card is audigy 1 (1394) driver is yupax 1.2 and perhaps some other version... |

Hi again.
Hey, you've got quite an unusual mix of driver files there. Everything is working like that? Lucky, lucky! I believe the answer is you can't. You would need a driver designer type who writes inf's and stuff to have the thing install the kind of combo set the way it is now. The best advice for this is to buy something like Norton Ghost or Drive Image and make an image of your hard drive the way it is now. You would store that on media like a cdr or another hard drive. When you need it, it'll be there for you to set everything on your hard drive the same as it is now. Of course, you'd have to have exactly the same motherboard, processor, and other hardware for that image to work right. The other safety net would be for you to have all the driver sets you installed from safely backed up to a cdr, and write down the exact procedure you used this time that resulted in the current state of your audio card drivers. That way you'll be able to duplicate the procedure even if you get a new computer someday.

You'd think that would be all, but Creative has always put stuff everywhere. Cd controllers, soundfont managers, wavesets, etc, etc.
So really knowing exactly what is needed and where they all get put would be very tough. By the way, Creative should have driver sets for your card in the downloads sections of their website. It looks like your card is not an SBLive, but rather another variant. Try to look up your card in the menu you fill in that brings up the driver pages. You may have done more work than you needed to. You can also call them and ask if they have a cd for your card. You never know. But the couple of suggestions I made about making sure you can duplicate your current driver/software files is the only other way (I think) to do it, barring Creative having a working set to download or buy on a cd.

of course there are working drivers for my card which is an audigy.. but the standard drivers sound worse than the audigy4 drivers.. and eax1 works now for the first time like i want it to, and i had installed aud1, kx, aud2 and aud4 youpax. nevertheless i gonna backup at least those files listed there, the important files are not those you mentioned, but those responsible for direct sound/eax etc.

Okay then. You went from an SBLive variant (like SB512PCI) in the other thread to an Audigy 1. Something's not real here.
Whatever. You understand that a complete driver set also needs to be registered properly. Copying files will simply leave you with no sound. This isn't like installing an Ms-Dos program. Your talking about stuff all over the registry and all files in proper places for any driver software to work. Wrong versions of what you may consider to be "unimportant" are quite important unless you enjoy Windows crashing your system and reformatting fun. You need to either precisely duplicate what you did this time to get the same result, image your drive, or find a driver/software set you're happy with. There is no way you will luck out and create your own driver set. Have fun though!

as i wrote in the other thread, it was because of eax i re-tried the sb4.1 digital though owning an audigy1.
my idea was like: copying the mentioned files. after reinstall: install youpax driver completly. then boot in safe mode and copy the dlls that ive gathered now. |

Ah, I see. You tried the older card when you weren't satisfied with your Audigy.
What you're thinking of doing has a very small chance of success. Since you like what you've got now, why not just duplicate it next time? Simply save all the driver/software files you used and do the same thing next time. Like I said before, it's that or making an image.

There are some apps available that will collect copies of the driver and inf files together.
Try XP Tools, http://www.xptools.net/index.htm or Driver genius http://www.driver-soft.com/download.htm |
