Creative EAX Advanced HD on BF2

I have recently become the proud owner of an Audigy 2 ZS card.

In Battlefield 2 I was expecting the Creative EAX Advanced HD logo to appear when I selected 'Hardware' under the audio options (with the Realtek onboard all I could pick was Software or things got screwy), but I get the standard EAX logo appear.

Is that normal?

it was this way with the new 1162 drivers and the previously official Audigy 2 ZS drivers....

Thanks

yup Hardware / High, cool logos are just for X-Fiers. I wonder how much Creative had to pay for that little "banner"

It's normal that you see standard logo, not the Advanced HD. EAX works for sure but which version it is for Audigy XX users, I don't know. It doesn't sound like 4.0 and Creative doesn't praise that BF2 uses Advanced HD. I think only EA knows the truth. You can ask them .

***edit***
Maybe someone with X-fi sound card would tell us what logo it has.

If you haven't done so, don't forget to do the OpenAL fix for BF2 as well. What you do is go to your Windows\System32 folder and locate openAL32.dll and copy and paste it to a safe location. Then you rename the copy to BF2OpenAL.dll, and then copy and paste the renamed file into your BF2 folder. Might be a good idea to make a backup of the original BF2OpenAL.dll in case of any problems.l

I assume the file in sys32 directory is the audigy installed one is it?

Just the main BF2 install folder? What does this 'fix' do for BF2?

It allows you to update the update the OpenAL (BF2OpenAL) at the same time as updating your sound drivers.

I think you shouldn't replace BF2OpenAL.dll with OpenAL32.dll. You should replace it with wrap_oal.dll, if you want to replace anything at all . Compare the files versions and sizes and you will see similarities between them. Only version number and modification date had changed. Don't know is there any benefit of replacing those two files. It's hard to find any changelog. The only thing I found is bellow, but changes are probably since 1.1.1.3 version, not from 1.1.1.0.

Quote:
OpenAL Installer for Windows

The OpenAL installer for Windows will install the OpenAL library, enabling support for core OpenAL operations as well as extensions such as EAX. The installer supports any 32-bit version of Windows.

Updated August 29, 2005 -- Version 1.7.0
Version note -- Installs OpenAL32.dll version 6.14.357.9 and wrap_oal.dll version 1.1.4.0.

Bugfixes --

The installer has been updated to remove a bug with native support after downgrading Creative driver revisions or moving to an older creative product.

The wrapper has been updated to enumerate "Generic Hardware" and "Generic Software" as the default devices. The wrapper still accepts the DS3D, DS, and MMSYSTEM legacy names as valid.

The router has been updated to accomodate the new generic device names -- it will map requests for the legacy names to the appropriate new name, and will not enumerate old names if the new names are available in a findable OpenAL library. The router also has been updated to fix a crash-bug on systems where there is no sound card available.
Not much of that. Source.

I've been reading a lot about this and quite a few people had better performance by replacing the BF2openAl.dll. They all said specifically 'DONT' replace the wrap_oal.dll funnily enough.

I will test tonight, I replaced the file in the BF2 directory last night bt didn't get chance to try it.
