??? X-FI AD_EXT pin assignment, anyone?

My x-fi XtremeMusic card has the AD_EXT pins which look identical to the ones on my old A2ZS.

However, I've already tried connecting pin #25 & #35 together, hoping to fool the x-fi into thinking that it has a drivebay connected just like the way I did with my A2ZS, but unfortunately it didn't work the same way.

I know the card is still very new, but does anyone have AD_EXT pin assignment for the x-fi card?

Your reply will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, tricking it didn't work - I was hoping I could use SPDIF in to decode AC3/DTS from my XBOX, but joining pin #25 & &35 didn't enable extra I/O in X-FI driver.

Thanks anyway for your reply. I guess the pin assignment on X-FI might be different than the A2ZS. I think I have to wait a little longer until someone comes up with a solution.

Cheers!

I was trying to hook up an Audigy front panel, no luck there eiter.
The most important thing to me is finding a headphone connector.
I almost bought the X-Fi version with the panel, but I have a really good beige case and the panel would stand out too much.

Thanks for the information... Just wondering why the 25&35 trick didn't work with my extrememusic card... I'll definitely give it another shot tonight and I'll report the result.

cheers!

My second attempt gave the same result - No extra I/O were enabled in X-Fi driver and AC3/DTS decoding from SPDIF option was still grayed out.

I'm curious how you got it work, Cadman. You simply connected the pins and everything worked??? It would be great if you could share your experience with us.

Thanks!

from what i know of people using the a1 drive with a2 boards - it doesn't really work, so my guess is that only a2 drives *may* work - no certainty

but motherboard adaptors are great things to play with

I'm talking about the topic of the thread. Getting the x-fi to think a drive bay is connected so that the option to decode 5.1 becomes available.

A question, has anyone tried connecting a drive bay from an audigy 2 zs to the x-fi? What features worked and what didn't?

Maybe there is a way to mod the driver to force the setting to show? Maybe something in the registry I dunno.

my guess is that the audigy 2 drive is identical to the x-fi drive, but i can't be certain yet

I have a reason to believe that the AD_EXT connector on X-FI is different... or slightly different than that of the A2ZS. If Audigy 2 drive was identical to the x-fi drive, tricking the 25&35 pin would activate additional I/O.

But I could be wrong though.

you have a point there, however when CL went from the Live! to the Audigy series they kept the AUD_EXT header identical, i have a feeling it's to do with the drivers more than the pins25/35 trick

I am really looking forward to find more about X-Fi AD_EXT pinout, but unfortunately card is not available here in my country... Soon as i find someone close enough who buy it i'll try to figure this one out... Meanwhile, is anybody willing the risk to set his card/pinouts by my instructions?!?

I guess no one has figured this one out? I'm interested in a solution too because I currently use 2 Audigy2 ZS cards with the 25-35 pin mod and an ASUS Optical/Coaxial SPDIF out bracket hooked up to pins 1,7&9 and it works great. But I have other issues with the Audigy2 like high pitched noises and game issues, so would like to try the X-Fi, but if I can't mod it like I can an Audigy2 then I may have to pass, cause you can forget a drive bay and the Elite Pro is way too pricey...NOT TO MENTION...that I'm pissed that Creative didn't go PCI>Express

I don't think that's very difficult for the one who has the sound card to find out pin assignment in that you simply checkout one pin by one pin to figure out what pins they are.
