Squeal of Death - Audigy 2 ZS

I've had it. I need help.

I am suffering from the Audigy Squeal of Death disease and I want out!

Does anyone know if there is a driver fix for this problem? Or if I'm going to have to ditch this PoS and buy something new?

I've switched PCI Slots, freed up IRQ's, reinstalled XP dozens of times, and have tried both of the modded Audigy 2/4 drivers that are listed here and elsewhere.

If there is no fix, what is a viable replacement? Will all Creative cards, outside of Audigy series, give me the same problems? Is an X-Fi a bad idea?

- A near lunatic.

I just had this problem and fixed it. I had to do a total format and fresh OS install. I then had slipstreamed my XP pro CD, then installed DX9.0C, then installed chipset drivers, then sound drivers, then GFX drivers. Then you must directly update windows. This is the most imprtant thing.....Creative drivers conflict with cetain Codecs....Realplayer ,Quicktime, and DiviX to name a few....not for everyone but it did for me. After all this....two weeks now and no Tonelock/Squeel of death!!!

A couple of quick questions,

1. Rest of your system specs.

2. what driver version are you running for the card

It could also be caused by a driver conflict. I would get the same thing (the squeal, or a BSOD) when running games. Turned out the problem was the drivers for my video card causing it and not the sound card or its drivers. Changed the video drivers and haven't had it happen since.

Sad

I heard that many of these problems was solved by softmodding the Audigy 2 zs to Audigy 4, but I did not yet find more on the subject. Mine is fine, except audio clicks and stuff on higher FSB that poor 200Mhz, witch limiting me a lot

You sure your PCI bus is locked

It probably won't help but try to change the pci latency of the soundcard, you might as try to change the latency of the video card too to see if it has any effect :

Meaker - it is locked at 66Mhz (AGP), witch give 33Mhz (PCI)

Tril - I tried already many times alter almost all settings, no help.

...and despite attempts like:
a) choosing the not shared PCI slot (second on bottom on DFI LP B mobo)
b) increasing the PCI latency (32 - 64, 96 - 160 = no help)
c) tweaking with the CPU disconnect, P2P-EXT settings and such
d) adding a aditional grounding from the mosfet to the MOBO
...I was not able to fix the issue.

Sometimes increasing Vcore and Vchipset seems to help, but usually just to get rid of one issue and then another aperar quickly.
For example, at 230x11 it shut all audio in Doom3 rather quickly, despite 100% stable prime, at 1.725Vcore. 1.750Vcore and Doom3 audio works well. Yet Battlefield 2 still have cracks in audio, so... I had to step back
