something interesting for Live!/Audigy/2 owners
EDIT: Obsolete and buggy. Use build 383 drivers instead. You can get them here:

which part is confusing?
well, whatever, here i go again: for the 283 driver set: you put contents of wdma_evil_emu.rar in the drivers root directory (the one that contains win2k_xp, common folders and all that ctzapxx crap) and simply install the driver using the device manager, pointing it onto wdma_evil_emu.inf (don't use ctzapxx) the 323 procedure is a bit more complicated: first you must download creative's audigy2 driver update, that updates currently installed 283 to 323. i.e. here: http://files.asia.creative.com/files...VL11021217.exe you don't execute it, instead, extract it's contents using winzip or winrar or whatever, and copy the contents of the drivers directory over the 283 driver package, replacing existing files. from now on the procedure is the same as for the 283 set. there will be some 283 leftovers in the common directory, but my inf won't use them. |

uhm.. i haven't been busy by this lately, it turns out this is a more complicated matter.... but i have discovered something interesting. when spdif out is "broken" (no sound form the speakers) and you launch a dvd player and tell it to feed the ac3 stream through S/PDIF to an external decoder, the decoder actually DOES pick up the stream, and works perfectly... so the s/pdif out isn't really broken, i think it's just muted. creative probably did this on purpose. it is possible, that changing a single byte in the .dat files would remedy this situation, but i don't know where to start... the 252 .dat files are similar to the 283, but still there are many small changes. in other words, i'm stuck :P

Sound Blaster Live! Platinum - DTT2500 Digital
errr.. there is an output digital sound (continuous noise 'chac chac chac chac' xDD) but dolby digital light (in dolby decoder) is off. I´ve instaled .283 .323 .324 and wdma_evil_emu.rar, but I´ve the same noise problem. Windows XP Sp1 Someone has reolved that?? thanxxxxx PD: that only matter when i try to reproduce a DVD (5.1), or an AC3 sound, with normal sounds works fine (mp3, tv, cd-audio, etc) |

You mean that after installing .283 or newer WDMs you don't have any problems outputting digital PCM stream? If you'll give me your card's subsystem ID i'll try to do some digging. You can check it using i.e. WCPUID. Launch the program, click on View > Device List... and write down the value corresponding to the Audio Controller row and SubSystem column.

here you are:
Bus Dev Fnc VendorID DeviceID Revision SubSystem IRQ Device Type --- --- --- --------- --------- --------- --------- --- --------------------- #0 #9 #0 1102h 0002h 08h 80401102h 18 Audio Controller i can hear 'some kind of sound', it´s only noise (digital sound not decode??? :?, i don´t know), the dolby digital decode doesn´t activate (light is off). The last drivers with I can hear 5.1 DVD, and AC3 sounds are: 3.0.0.11 With AudioHQ: 1.10.22 and Surround Mixer: 2.00.29 ....but the system freeze regulary with i´m reproducing sound. Very very thanks, and sorry for my English :P //////////// EDIT //////////// When I install wdma_evil_emu.rar , with .283 or .323 or .324, and try to reproduce DVD 5.1 or AC3 sound, there isn´t "scratchin" sound, the light is off too.... no sound... With 'others' sounds works fine thanks Last edited by Venum; Feb 27, 2003 at 01:30 PM. |

I think that here is the problem:
Extract of AudioHQ/Device Controls .......... HELP: AC3 Code:
Configuring Dolby Digital Decoder settings If your music or movie supports Dolby Digital (AC-3) decoding, you can use your audio card to decode the signal to your speakers. To use your audio card for Dolby Digital (AC-3) decoding 1. On the Decoder tab, in the Decoder Options box, click the Dolby Digital (AC-3) Decode option to select it. 2. To limit the range of the loudest to softest signal, click the Dynamic Range Compression check box to select it. If, however, you would like to experience the full range of Dolby Digital sound, click this check box to deselect it. 3. To enjoy the Dolby Pro Logic effect, click the Dolby Pro Logic check box to select it. 4. To enjoy the Dolby Digital EX effect, click the Dolby Digital EX check box to select it. 5 To use an external decoder for Dolby Digital (AC-3) decoding or DTS Digital Out, click the SPDIF Passthrough option to select it. The compressed AC-3 SPDIF signal will be passed through the Digital Out jack of your audio card to the external decoder. Note For the best results, Dolby Digital EX should only be used with movie soundtracks recorded with Dolby Digital EX. Copyright © 1998-2002. Creative Technology, Ltd. Thanks |

well, i've tried assinging that device id to two different sb live's, one player 1024 and one player 5.1. no luck, still no digital output sound.
whatever, i'm dumping that piece o' creative crap and getting an Aureon Space :P my live lived through too many mods, and has started falling apart :P (tracks are comming off the pcb, i kinda overheated it with my 45W soldering iron...) + the gameport/midi out doesn't work anymore and the EMU10K1 no loner has eeprom communication pins (i was having good fun knocking off some chips, caps and resistors off to see what would happen ;p not very creative... but fun huhuh i even ripped off a chunk of the pcb :P and the card still works lol. wonder if it still would without the ac'97 codec... i'll chceck that later heheheh, when i get a replacement.... i'd die without Children of Bodom <if you wanna check 'em out i'd recommend Bed of Razors or Every Time I Die. Melodic Metal with classical influences, especially in their first two albums. www.cobhc.com>)So i think you can expect to hear from me again.... this time moddin' Envy24HT drivers i already have some nice ideas...

Hmm.
Is there anybody outside who can help me with my problem? It's always the same - like this one from "Venum" - crackling sound with the internal DVD ---> Audigy 1 S/PDIF connector and an external decoder (Cambridge Soundworks DTT2500). But I use the Audigy 1. Maybe there is a working patch outside? Please help me! THX for all answers XStoneX

be sure to turn off ac3 decode in surround mixer/enable spdif passthrough in AudioHQ. make sure you're using the right (not as in left and right :P) spdif out, as the audigy has got uhm... 4 of them? either 3 or 4 :P the right one can be found on pin 17 (signal) and 18 (ground, any other ground will suffice too) of the audio extension connector (the large 40 pin thing you connect the 'drive to). don't know wich one is "the right one" on the yellow "digital out" on the back of the card or on the 'drive as i don't use them. you can whip up a cable with a female RCA on one side and 2 pin pin-header connector on the other for a couple cents or just salvage the neccesary parts out of some crappy RCA cable and an old computer case or whatever that has the needed connectors :P
also, try running both the pc and the AC3 decoding part from the same wall outlet. and do try different drivers, like .253, .283, 323 and KX Project (KX are excellent for diagnostics, as everything can be configured according to needs regardless of the card's model) |
