There is a driver update on the creative website for the X-Fi cards that could help.
I had a few issues with my xtreme music card and the update sorted it out

No didn't have the same issue, Some of the apps didn't work correctly and the card wouldn't work in quake4.
I don't have the card connected to power at the moment, spotted the connector on the board but didn't want to try it incase it wasn't for power as the manual didn't say to connect the board to power.

all x-fi cards have the AD_LINK port on the rear don't they? if so that power connector is for when you plug the external i/o box

no your PCI card will not need the power, as it's only for the external module

it looks like pretty much all of the x-fi cards are the same, with the capability of upgrading to both the external AND the internal modules from the base card… unlike the audigy 2 series…

this is what you should do, one step at the time, proceed to the next step if no improvement:
1 make sure that your old sound card drivers are uninstalled. if you were using onboard audio make sure it is now disabled in bios
2 uninstall and install again the x-fi drivers
3 get the latest motherboard drivers from asus site
4 flash bios to the latest version
good luck

Sounds like you've got a problem with "EMI" (eletro magnetic interferance)
but also could be a extermly overloaded / under powered power supply.

More likely EMI but I my self have seen cases where the PSU was barely
cutting it and one of the key stand out was when useing the mouse scrooll
I'd hear a "noise" like I could hear the scrool the nose was comeing from the
PSU. The PSU being the beating heart of any system, with out a good one
you can have al sorts of unexplainable problems. May not be in your case
I'd have to look at it my self to know. But It's a possablity that should be
considerd.

EMI being the other likely hood

External:
Run around and unplug everything with in say 10 feet that isn't your PC
see if you problem goes away... Make sure you power cables and data cables
pass each other at right angles, power lines running along side data lines can
and will intoduce interfereance. You could have EMI comeing in from your wall
outlet and in a case like that you'd need a UPS (and I'd say it pretty rare).....
not to mention you PSU would take the brunt of the problem in a case like that.
You'd kow if your power company has issues... if "brown outs" etc would be in
you freqently used vocabulary...

Internal
Try useing the EMI features on you motherbord, Make sure you've got the
latest bios for you board. Turn on an optuion in you bios called "Spread Spectrum"
or sumlar wich varries the freqency used by the system buss so that there is less
EMI emited from your system buss. http://www.rojakpot.com/showFreeBOG....ng=0&bogno=133

Also the arangement of you PCI cards, or the PCI slot used can have an effect.
Devices or other pci cards could be the problem...

There are alot of "possabilities" but it going to be up to you to figure out....
sound cards are shot sheilded from EMI, that way alot of makers putting on
the better ship on mother board makw it a serate moduale, that way there
can be a whole nother layer of board to help insolate from interferaence...

Hmmm ... I know and thats very stange ,

Keep at it and you can figure it out. Just trying to throw some
more ideas your way as there are so many things to consider.
where there is a will there is a way... But you trouble shooting
one of the worst / most annoying problems you can run into...

Could even be a problem with the card for all we know.
wich reminds me Also Try contacting creatives support and see
what they say....
