Hi,
I'm running a laptop with WinXP and onboard sound and I have the latest AC97 drivers (a3.78) installed. Whenever I try to change the sound hardware acceleration in dxdiag or in control panel->sound and audio devices->advanced->performence the setting will reset back to 'full' if I either: A)Reboot B)Open up 'Sound Effect Manager' in control panel. Can this be fixed? Thank you in advance. |

I just was checking, when I install the old drivers that were originally on my laptop (which is a Toshiba p30) the Sound Effects Manager does not appear in the control panel and any changes made to hardware acceleration will stay after a reboot. The old drivers are version 5.10.0.5620 compared to the latest at 5.10.0.5940.
I have a feeling that sound effects manager is responsible for reseting my changes. I have a couple of games which seem to give better performence when the hardware acceleration is lowered and I would like to use the latest drivers without having to change my settings all of the time. |

Do you like hacked drivers? Install Hacked SOUNDMAX4.0 drivers on your AC97. There were two methods for hacking the drivers includes modifying ID of sound card (found on DxDiag), and smwdmCH5.inf of AC97 to "%*WDM_AC97AUD.DeviceDesc%= (Your ID)" on row AnalogDevices. Though this modding method is pretty old, it's useful.
