No rush, but I've had a long running problem...

....and I suck with audio. (Well, not exactly "suck"...but I ain't all that familar with it. I got a golden ear, for whatever that's worth. )

It happened with me SB-live 5.1, (which is now officially collecting dust on the shelf where it belongs...unless I decide to toss it into me 3 year olds pc or something. ), and it's happening with me TBSC. I hooked it all up correctly with the cables on the spd/if-whatever thingy (yeah, nice and technical this morning John ) and enabled it thru the soundcard's control panel, but when I enable digital sound in WinDVD 4 it suddenly goes silent and the DVD plays in the "hurry up and wait" where it plays at about 4x speed for a second then hangs, then a second later rushes forward again to hang.

Where did I goof? What am I doing wrong? What more info do ya need to understand me problem better? I'm running 98se with the 4.12.01.4081.2921 on the TBSC. Me 98se install on this rig is more than a little flaky right now, but stable enough for what I'm using her for and I'm trying to put off a re-build on her for another 6-7 hours or so. (I want to make sure Bubbles is up to speed before I wipe Blue, I'm silly that way. )

Thanks in advance. No rush, I've had this problem for a while and just haven't thought enough about it to bother to ask. But the TBSC made such a huge improvement in just me TVs sound that I've decided it's time to find out how good good can get.

Whoa, I had this same problem witht my Audigy and thought "oh it must be the crappy Creative drivers".... .... I never figured out what did that though.... Maybe you should try reinstalling drivers or using an old driverset. I think I did something like that and the problem got fixed. NEway, I don't use the Audigy anymore

Hmmm... I haven't seen this problem in either my Creative Sound Blaster or Audigy... then again, I'm using PowerDVD 3.0, not 4...

ToshiroOC

Do you have an older version to move back onto and see if it still happens? Does it happen with ALL DVD's, or just some, or sporadically on the same one...

It almost sounds like a DMA conflict to me.

What chipset are you running in this box?

I've had it happen with my TUSL2-C & CUSL2-C on my SB-live 5.1 and my new Turtle Beach Santa Clare. Same EXACT thing.

For me, the problem occured regardless of what player I used. it even occured with creative's own software. I tried both windvd and powerdvd.

ummm here is a total shot in the dark but maybe it's something you not thinking about... all the Hi end sound blasters eat IRQ's /are really picky if you not using your serial ports disable them. (I can't remember the specifics but, when I used to build a lot of systems. We would always disable com 1 and/or 2 in the bios when we would build systems with a SB-live 5.1 . But I forget exactly why but I do know it fixed allot of problems people where having) hope this helps....

Another thought but if it doesn’t help
also try setting you PCI IRQs as follows top to --> bottom 9 10 3 11

Also, I don’t know if it’s true or not but what I was told whatever is in PCI slot 1 (the PCI slot nearest to you video card) does share some resources with the AGP slot..

-Good luck

I do think I remember why you did that Neon. Wasn't it the issue of Creative cards requiring IRQ's 5 & 7?

Dig have you installed the lastest chipset drivers on this board?

However, I would think if there was an IRQ conflict he would be having more problems than just with DVD playback. I still think it's something to do w/ his drive setup. What is the one thing the card and the drives have in common?
