Audigy 2 ZS, Win XP extreamly slow startup
After i installed A2ZS on my PC I got the following problem. When I log in to windows, the process of startup is regular at first, but after few seconds it halts. Any aplication that is already running does it without problems most of the time, but other application that 'are' starting at the moment freeze in this state up to 20 minutes even. Then instantly the freeze 'wears off' and everything works almost as usual (except some system instability from time to time). Has any of you any idea how to fix this? (And don't say reinstall - I got so many so many apps it would take ages to reinstall).
System Specs: -Win XP Pro OS -Soltek motherboard: SL-75KAV/-X (onboard sound is disabled in bios) -AMD Athlon XP 2400+ -WinFast 280LE (G-Force 4TI) -Soundblaster AWE32 PnP (in ISA slot- yes I'v got ISA hehe ![]() -Audigy 2 ZS OEM -Genius Network Adapter (Realtek RTL8029(AS)) -AVerTV Studio 303 (currently plugged off, so its not the source of conflict) -2x Segate harddrive -LiteOn CD burner -LiteOn DVD burner |

if you had your onboard sound enabled with drivers installed, then before you installed the new card did you totally do a search and destroy on any leftover reg entries of those drivers.also the install order of all the cl driver patches and updates need to be in the correct order or you will be sorry.read each patch discription carefully make sure all patches are applied.this is how i installed my drivers.sry for the third person convirstion with myself in this but it is the actual readme from my setup.install drivers 2.08.002 beta drivers then audio control center then mediasource player and organizer then cdrom burner plugin then dts neo 6 drivers.then i installed all wanted apps from official install disk and then installed the eax update and the thx update.i guess this will work but who knows with creative.the only ones you really need are the 2.08.002 drivers and the audio control center for full functionality of your card.i like all the other apps myself and as long as you dont let any of them start with windows it is fine.later

try disabling cthelper.exe from starting (can be disabled from start - run msconfig - startup) this program has been know to cause high cpu locks and bugs it should be harmless disabling it

Try removing all soundcards and double check that any onboard sound is off. Then start up the system and run drivercleaner, shut down and put the new soundcard in another slot than previously if possible.

Ok, second atempt to remove everything from creative .. removing most of files / dirs with creative in name or contents ... lets see where this get me .. hehe
BTW Onboard sound has never been active (bios) from the beginning of this win installation, so no drivers to remove. |

I solved problem by installing SP2. I'm not happy about it (I'm kinda anti-sp2), but as it saved me from reinstalling whole system so for now its ok.
