5.1 sound on K8V Deluxe motherboard

Ok here goes on the asus website it says my K8V deluxe supports surround sound
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...34&modelmenu=1

" 6 Channel Audio
The K8V Deluxe uses an onboard Audio CODEC that lets you enjoy high-quality 6-channel audio without having to buy advanced sound cards."

Right all i see at the back of my comp is a line-in headphones and microphone ports

and above that an S/PDIF port as well

I see the sticky with the S/PDIF being able to support 6 channels so how would i go about this when i have 3 jacks the lime-green orange and black ones on my Creative Inspire P580 for the front back centre+subwoofer

So what do I buy to make this work

or do the microphone headphone and line-in double up in someway????

it seems to be suggested here by the author of that thread that you can on his notebook http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/5/136372.html

If i can double up which colour jacks go where?

If i can use the S/PDIF which cable/adaptor do I need to buy ( I asked the nabs in Dixons and they didnt have a clue) which can support surround sound (yes the onboard soundcard does have AC3)

Any help other than asking me to get a PCI 5.1 soundcard would be helpful

That's exactly it, if you install the soundmax drivers from the Asus site (click download on the left from the page you linked), they should give an option somewhere within to switch the function of the mic in and line in ports.

On my Athlon XP rig, mic in becomes rear speaker out, and line in becomes center/subwoofer out.

K thanks tried it out today and it worked though the line-in and the subwoofer needed to be swapped round.

Though it means I cant use a microphone in game so does anyone know what I need to get to use the S/PDIF port for my setup?

SPDIF outputs a digital signal, so if you want that to work, you need a digital decoder for your speakers... they're hard to come by now, as both Klipsch and Creative have discontinued their decoders.

Do you have any front audio ports? If so, you could try plugging your mic into them, that might work... I'm not too sure though, as I never bother plugging in my front audio ports.
