Audigy 2 ZS problem

Hi guys,

First, i'd like to thank the programmer's for modding the crappy creative drivers.

I supposedly have an audigy 2 zs OEM that I got from ebay. So I installed the youp-pax drivers for the audigy 2 zs series and it was fine but I never was able to install any of the extra software besides the drivers.

So today, after a few months, I decide to try out the audigy 4 mod. It says that gateway OEM cards are not supported but I have no way of finding out what it is. So I started by uninstalling everything I had that was sound card related including my old you-pax drivers. Then I try to install the youp-pax audigy 4 drivers. Everything seems to go fairly smoothly except at one moment, the iKernel installer that was updating my devices crashed (memory could not be read crash). But the youp-pax installer kept going and finished the installation and put in the audio console.

So I then proceed to reboot. When XP loads, I notice that I have sound now which is a good sign that drivers installed correctly. So I then go on to install the Audigy 4 software CD. The installer asks me for region and language, then I have two options I can check/uncheck: soundblaster audigy 4 and mediasource. I uncheck mediasource and then proceed to install the audigy 4 software. However, it pops up a box immediatly saying that it is unable to find a supported device. So I stop there and check the audio console and surprisingly, the device is detected as "SB Audigy [DF00]". Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

I tried searching on the forums but couldn't find anything related. I was following the audigy 4 mod sticky guide.

Thanks in advance

*EDIT* I got rid of the ikernel error by installing from safe mode but nothing has changed. It still sees SB Audigy[DF00]

*UPDATE* Sorry for not using the edit button but I felt like this update deserved a new post or else some of the people who have already read my first post would not look again.

All right since gateway OEM parts are said to not be compatible I decided to find out if what I had was a gateway part. I downloaded audigy 2 zs drivers from the gateway site and tried installing that. It installed without a problem and after a reboot, the audio console now shows SB Audigy 2 ZS [DF00]. So I guess I can't use the audigy 4 stuff. Would the PAX-NewYear2005 with the current PAX audigy 2 zs drivers function correctly and produce better results than simply using the gateway drivers?

Thanks

All right I'm back. I've been following the progress of these drivers hoping that one day there would be support for my Gateway OEM Audigy 2 ZS card but it doesn't seem like it's going to happen.

Is there a way for me to install the drivers manually by modifying the .inf file or something? Robert McClelland mentioned one time that he had a gateway audigy 2 and that he modded it to a ZS. I guess then that he found a way to install the youp drivers? Forum search did not yield anything useful. Any clarification would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check the true card model number (part of the serial number like M1SB03505353535....) and use method described @ http://www.tech-pc.co.uk/audigy-2.php to add your card support into ctcomp.dat. You can find some threads on this subject also from this forum. Just search using "ctcomp" as a criteria.

Thanks for the help, I looked at the extracted contents of the YouP-PAX-Fiv2.32.2006.SP2.exe and I couldn't find a data1.cab that had the ctcomp.dat file. Am I missing something or does this mean that I won't be able to install those youp drivers?

If I can't install them which do you recommend? The Audigy 4 ones?

Thanks

Chances are, you may get an error saying that the installer cannot find a saupported device.. I too have an OEM card from ebay, which was pulled from a HP pc... (no firewire or gold connectors - but branded Audigy 2 ZS). I did however manage to get the softmod to work... albeit a messy install, but got there in the end...

Have been told to try the ctcomp.exe in the extracted ISO directory, although it said it had worked, I still got the "cannot detect" message.. however, I am still able to install most of the utilities manually.... i think maybe this only works when you want to install on an Audigy or Live card and not an OEM audigy2, from my experience anyway...

Thanks for the replies guys. Here's what I ended up doing: I installed the applications I wanted using YouP-PAX-Fiv2.32.2006.SP2.exe. But the drivers wouldn't work. So before following jiiteepee's advice and downloading the Audigy 2 ZS original bundle, I went to the creative website and decided to try their latest drivers. It didn't work a few months ago but this time the file was different.

I downloaded SBAX_WEBUP_LB_2_08_0004.exe and it installed drivers for my card without a problem. So right now, I'm using the Audigy 4 surround mixer and other stuff bundled in the YouP release but with the drivers for the audigy 2 ZS. It sure beats the Gateway OEM drivers which haven't been updated since 2004....

Thanks guys

Thanks for the offer but I installed the software from the YouP-PAX-Fiv2.32.2006.SP2.exe file. I don't need all the software like media source and the soundfonts, etc. I just like the Audigy 4 Surround Mixer, Speaker Settings, Calibration, etc. So I got all that stuff down already.

I just wanted to see if installing hacked drivers would boost sound quality. But I have to say that the updated creative drivers are already better than the 2004 Gateway Drivers I had. The way I figured why Leon didn't include those cards in the updating is probably because there is something that prevents him from simply adding the proper device IDs and all. It must be something complicated. It's probably because a lot of those cards are tuned down version with some hardware disabled and the like. However my audigy 2 ZS seems to have everything including the firewire and the internal audio ports.

But maybe they can use those new creative drivers to figure out why it installs now. I'm dying to see if sound quality can get even better than before.

Thanks
